What God Has Done For usII Peter 1:3

1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue…”

12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

Our Goal for this Evening…

• bring to mind what God has done for us according to II Pt. 1:3

• understand how God has made knowledge of these things available to us.

• realize some obligations placed upon us as a result.

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Rm. 3:23

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…”

Isaiah 59:1,2

1 “Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:” 2 “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue…”

In what way has God made these things available to us?

3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue…”

Where do we go to obtain that knowledge?

II Timothy 3:14-17

“But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” II Tim. 3:14-17

14 “But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,” 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” II Tim. 3:14-15

John 20:30,31

30 “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:” 31 “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” II Tim. 3:16-17

The scriptures are profitable for:

Doctrine – teaching us about God and His will for us.Reproof – convicting us when we do wrong.Correction- showing us how to make things right.Instr. In righteousness – how we can continue to serve God acceptably.

There is not a situation in life where the scriptures are not applicable.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” II Tim. 3:16-17

As we consider what God has done for us this evening we need to understand…

He has given to us all things pertaining to life

He has given to us all things that pertain to godliness.

He has given us His word by which we can obtain knowledge of all things pertaining to both.

What obligations are placed upon us as a

result of knowing this?

II Tm. 2:15

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Col. 3:16-17

16 “ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” 17 "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

Jms. 1:22

21 “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” 22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

II Pt. 1:2,3

2 “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,” 3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue…”

In conclusion, Let us all be mindful of what God has done for us…

• “given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness”

Let us strive to study His word in order to know how we can be acceptable and pleasing to Him.

Let us be diligent in making application and allow God’s word to influence us for good in everyway that it can.
