Mother: Bob, how was your day at school?Bob: Quite bad. I had a test in Biology and I blew it (1).

Mother: Is it because you cut classes (2) so often?Bob: Yes, and the next thing you’ll say: hit the books (3)…I can’t stand (4) Biology. It is over my head (5).

Mother: Son, you need to make an effort (6) if you want to go to college (7). Bob: But I have two more years to go (8).

Mother: Ok, it’s up to you (9). It’s your life, after all (10).

Say that you do not understand the meaning g of word expressions under numbers 1-10. ask your classmates to explain them to you.

(3) to hit the books –

(4) can’t stand –

(5) to be over one’s head –

(6) to make an effort – делать усилие.

(7) to go to college – пойти учиться после средней школы (higher education – высшее образование). Если добавим артикль, смысл поменяется:to go to a college – идти к университету (одному из многих)to go to the college – идти к этому университету.

The sprinter has three more laps to go. We have 5 years to go until we finish high school.

(9) it’s up to you – тебе решать, зависит от тебя. It’s up to them to see into the matter.

(10) after all – в конце концов.

Well you say that you need me• Like an ocean needs sand• But the way you deceive me• I just don't understand•

Well you know that I love you• More than anyone can• But a one-sided love• I just don't understand•
