What does it mean?
The law is changing: from 2015 all young people will have to stay in learning until they are 18.
Does this mean you have to stay at school after year 11?
• No, but you do have to be in learning. This includes:– full-time education, such as school or college – work-based learning, such as an Apprenticeship – part-time education or training if you have a job or are
self-employed or volunteering for more than 20 hours a week
Education is free until you are 19
• Until you are 19 you can study at school or college for free
• After this you may have to pay• It is important that you make the most of
any courses you might want to do while they are still free

• You can’t just leave school so you do need to have a plan.
• Find out what everyone is offering and think about the best choice for you.
16 - 19 Bursary Fund• Young people aged 16 to 19 studying at
school or college may be eligible for support of up to £1,200
