Description Concrete Batching Plant. Project Value $2.2 Million Services Civil and Structural design for the concrete batching plant. To control the overland storm water run-off from the site onto the future State-controlled road without exceeding the present flow rates, it was necessary to install an internal storm water drainage collector, a retention and distribution system. In order to control the pollution, we designed acoustic wall systems with hinged flood doors positioned at intervals along the wall to allow excess water to pass through. It was also necessary to design a treatment train in three stages (first flush tank with overflow to a clean water tank and a final overflow to a biofilter base).

Project Name Seven / Eleven Service Station and Store upgrade 1186 Gold Coast Hwy - Palm Beach –QLD Time Period December 2011 to March 2012 Builder 4D Installations - 7/11 Description Service Station civil works and store upgrade. Project Value $0.45 Million Services I was the Site Construction Supervisor of the structural and civil engineering components of the project.

The works on this site consisted of bulk excavation to form the new underground fuel tanks. The excavations encountered loose sands with low bearing capacity. Temporary shoring was required to protect workers within the excavation, and to avoid undermining the adjacent canopy and store construction. We were also involved in the construction inspection of sub grades and heavy duty concrete pavements.

Jay has more than 14 years of experience as a structural engineer with experience in a wide range of projects varying from government institutional, medical and educational facilities to a range of commercial and industrial buildings through to a vast array of residential projects.

Jay has also been involved in the design of a significant number of local Council projects including amenities buildings, community buildings, and lifeguard/ park maintenance storage buildings. In his role he has also gained significant experience with civil structures and building remediation works. Jay has developed a very sound balance of on-site construction knowledge with design experience in the various fields of structural engineering.

Methodology CONCEPT PHASE

At Projects and Designs Engineers our aim is to deliver a project that exceeds our client’s expectations, which is delivered on or ahead of time and within budget constraints. Our methodology for achieving this begins at the earliest concept stage. Our first task is to understand the Client’s brief in full and to then evaluate the project site in terms of services, topography, geotechnical expectations, constraints and opportunities. It is imperative that early inputs from all team members are received at the beginning of a project

to maximise initial value and opportunity. A true understanding of the brief and constraints early allows design waste to be eliminated and avoids costly solutions at a later date to work around a constraint. We use our most senior staff to deliver simple sketch designs in this phase to quickly illustrate concept alternatives to the team, to allow informed early decisions before planning becomes fixed. VALUE MANAGEMENT

Following the concept phase our team will prepare option studies on different structural solutions. These options will include variations in material and system selection, evaluation of structural grid options and detailed reviews of buildibility and safety in design issues.

DESIGN AND DOCUMENTATION Following value management we continue to refine our design using sophisticated design software combined with our experience and knowledge. We very quickly translate our design scheme into a working drawings. During the critical conclusion phase of design development, we carry out a further review of design to ensure the optimum solution proceeds to detailed design and to ensure the Client’s brief requirements have been incorporated. We proactively communicate with the project team to ensure adequate design input information is available and regular data exchange occurs for coordination.

We commence design checks progressively, using an engineer independent from the design process, to ensure adequacy of the design information and satisfy our quality system. Final documents are reviewed by the Project Director prior to issue. After completion of the design our project team remains involved during tender and delivery to ensure continuity. Where delivery methodology dictates we review design and construction packages. However, we prefer to control structure package’s, such as post tensioning and pre-cast in-house, where possible, to ensure value remains controlled by Projects and Designs Engineers and our Client.

CONSTRUCTION PHASE

Our site team will carry out inspections of all major structural elements. All inspections are all carried out by senior experienced staff. We identify defects progressively and work proactively with the Contractor to resolve quality issues without delay and in a collaborative manner. Our handover inspections and reports are completed in a timely fashion always with the aim of having an informed Client. All of our processes have been refined over many complex and large projects and are constantly reviewed to provide continual improvements and excellence to our Clients.

Fee for Services

Our fees will be based on the drawings provided and our assessment of the scope of work. Individual proposal per project will be submitted for your approval. INVOICING Invoices will be issued monthly and payment terms are strictly 30 days from date of invoice. ADDITIONAL SERVICES Our Fees are inclusive of costs incurred for minor changes to design and documentation typically associated with the design development process but exclude major amendments and changes to completed or substantially completed documents. Additional Engineering Services and/or additional work beyond our Scope of Services or amendments to our designs or documentation will be carried out for an agreed lump sum fee or on a time basis charge using the following hourly charge out rates (excluding GST):

• Team Leader $200.00 / hour

• Senior Engineer $160.00 / hour

• Design Engineer $150.00 / hour

• Senior Draftsperson $130.00 / hour

• Draftsperson $100.00 / hour

• Administration Staff $ 80.00 / hour

The above hourly charge out rates are for structural and civil engineering services only.
