What are the types of blood?• Plasma

• Yellowish color• Makes up about 50%-60%

• Hemoglobin– Bright red blood

• Also known as arterial blood• It comes from your arteries • Has oxygen

• Deoxygenated Blood– Dark shade of blood

• Also known as venous blood• Comes from your veins• Not much oxygen wikipedia

Hemoglobin

• Heme – Makes up hemoglobin– Has its own iron atom – Binds oxygen– Four subunits

• Globin – Makes up hemoglobin

Smooth Muscle

• Shape– Spindle shape

• Receptors– They absorb the light

Page 7: What color is blood in your body? By Maegan Carlson.

Why?

• This misconception is because of the light– There are three types of light (ROYGBIV)

» Red» Orange » Yellow» Green» Blue » Indigo» Violet

• All of the colors are absorbed except for blue, which is reflected

Another Reason..

• Many people may have seen a graph at the doctor and it could have shown arteries and blood. The color for blood would be blue. Some people thought they used the actual colors. So, they thought blood was blue.

Cyanosis

• The Path– “Hemoglobin is in the red blood cells

• It picks up oxygen from the lungs

– It goes through the arteries and releases it to a cells though tiny capillaries.

– The blood circulates back to the lungs through capillaries and veins.”

The Survey

• With the survey, I had to ask 20 people my question “What color is blood in your veins?.”

• The people I interviewed either didn’t know or were correct on their guess– No one answered with an “I know for a fact…”,

everyone said their answer as a question. Blue? Or Red?

• Everyone had a good explanation on why they thought their blood was red or blue.
