What is WorkWell? WorkWell is a program designed to recognize local employers who made a commitment to address workforce health issues. Employers who actively promote changes to their work environment or culture can apply for the WorkWell Healthy Workplace Designation, if at least one of the following changes was undertaken in 2011: 1. Healthy Eating: The work environment or culture was modified or enhanced so that healthier food choices are available or more accessible to employees. 2. Physical Activity: The work environment or culture was modified or enhanced so that engaging in physical activity during work hours was an option or easier choice for employees. 3. Tobacco-Free: The work environment or culture was modified or enhanced to support tobacco- free initiatives, i.e. tobacco-free campus, tobacco- free hiring, tobacco cessation services, etc. What are the benefits? The cost benefits of employee worksite programs are well documented. Healthy employees use fewer health care dollars, which could translate to lower insurance premiums. Many changes can transform even small businesses and organizations into Healthy Worksites. Employees are more likely to be on the job and performing well when they are in good health. They are also more likely to be attracted to and remain with an employer who clearly values them. Many employers, small and large, have found that addressing workforce health is not only desirable but feasible. Even simple, modest efforts can result in tangible benefits for both the employer and employee. Research shows that employers who have changed their work environment and culture to demonstrate support of employee health have gained: • Employees who are more productive, cope better with change, make better decisions, and deal with stress more effectively. • An image of good stewardship, by investing in the workforce while increasing morale and managing health-associated costs. What are the designations? Three levels of recognition will be awarded through the WorkWell Designation Program. Bronze Recognition Received by employers that met one of the following changes below: A. Healthy Eating: Supported ongoing changes to the work environment or culture that made healthier food choices available or more accessible to employees. B. Physical Activity: Supported ongoing changes to the work environment or culture that made engaging in physical activity during work hours an option or easier choice for employees. C. Tobacco-Free: Supported ongoing changes to the work environment or culture that made the work environment tobacco-free. What are the designations? Silver Recognition Received by employers that met two of the following changes below: A.
