Name of simple organisms

• Algae

• Can make their own food

• Sometimes called plantlike protist

• Some unicellular, some multicellular

Unicellular Algae

• Some made of one cell• Lives in watery environment• Float on top of the water • Part of plankton• `collection of microscopic organisms• Has chlorophyll• Can have a color ranging from yellowish-

green to golden brown

Euglena

• Both plantlike and animal-like

• Has its own phylum

• Contains chlorophyll

• Uses its eyespot

• Extends from its body

• How is the euglena animal-like?

Multicellular Algae

• Some algae has many cells

• Pigments give green, red, or brown coloring

• Green algae live in fresh water

• Red or brown live in ocean and are called seaweed or kelp

• The brown algae grow the tallest and can wash along shorelines

Slime Molds

• Multicellular • Two examples• Slime mold • Water mold• Lives in moist soil or rotting logs• Water mold found in lakes and pond, diseased aquarium• Water mold are parasites or live on other organism

• How are slum molds and water molds different?
