• How are algae and plants alike?
Name of simple organisms
• Algae
• Can make their own food
• Sometimes called plantlike protist
• Some unicellular, some multicellular
Unicellular Algae
• Some made of one cell• Lives in watery environment• Float on top of the water • Part of plankton• `collection of microscopic organisms• Has chlorophyll• Can have a color ranging from yellowish-
green to golden brown
Euglena
• Both plantlike and animal-like
• Has its own phylum
• Contains chlorophyll
• Uses its eyespot
• Extends from its body
• How is the euglena animal-like?
Multicellular Algae
• Some algae has many cells
• Pigments give green, red, or brown coloring
• Green algae live in fresh water
• Red or brown live in ocean and are called seaweed or kelp
• The brown algae grow the tallest and can wash along shorelines
