St Norbert College Parish Annual Pray, Serve, Share Report
2016 - 2017
Sisters and Brothers in Christ, My wife JoDee and I were walking across campus in early August with the warmth of the summer sun, trees in full bloom, birds singing; we found ourselves reflecting on the blessing of being able to serve the St. Norbert College Parish and college communities. The blessing to be disciples on a journey in the heart of a vibrant Catholic College is something we don’t take for granted. As our parish community gathers – faculty, staff, students and those we affectionately call “year rounders” – we are reminded of how we are blessed in so many ways.
The purpose of this memo is to share highlights from the past year and outline opportunities as we go forward. The data shared on the following pages is for our fiscal year ending on June 30, 2017. I hope you find the format of our Annual Pray, Serve, Share report enlightening. We are a vibrant parish that is on-fire with the Holy Spirit as seen through the loving relationships of our parishioners, those we encounter on campus, and in those we serve in the community and throughout the world.
If you have an interest in ministry involvement, an opportunity to put faith into action, visit our parish web site at www.snc.edu/parish . If you would like to get involved through prayer, serving, and sharing contact [email protected] . As our web site states; “while our work and ministry keep us focused on the college community, our doors are open to all. Through our common liturgy – the “font and summit” of our life together in the Church – we are able to extend a warm welcome to people of all ages from all over the world.”
In Jesus’ name, pray, serve, share. The Best is Yet to Come

WHAT A YEAR!
Meet our Parish Council Chairs
Travis Vanden Heuvel
My name is Travis Vanden Heuvel and I am a 2009 graduate
of St. Norbert College. I currently chair the Parish Council at
SNCP. I work in the publishing industry and live in De Pere
with my wife, Jessica (SNC class of 2010) and our daughter,
Faith.
Annie Nagle
My name is Annie Nagle and I am the Student Co-President
of St. Norbert College Parish Council. I am a senior
chemistry major from Elk Grove Village, Illinois and I have
been involved with the parish and the Emmaus Center at St.
Norbert College since I began as a student. For my first two
years here, I was a member of the ALIVE team and helped
to give first year students a place to discuss vocation and
spirituality in a welcoming and thoughtful environment. I am
also a part of Agape Latte, which gives college faculty and
staff a way to share their stories of faith with the student
body in an informal and easy-to-understand setting. I've been
a part of Parish Council for two years, and I am a lector and
Eucharistic minister for the parish. I am looking forward to
being a part of this parish community for another year, and I
hope that I can do my part in helping it grow and become a
more prominent component of campus life!

Parishioners & Friends,
Reflecting on the past few years at St. Norbert College Parish, I’m reminded, “God can restore what is broken and change it into something amazing. All you need is faith.” (Joel 2:25). If we’re going be honest, we’ve seen our share of ups and downs at SNCP over the last few years. And, at a few points along the way, our very existence as a parish was even up in the air. But because of our faith in Him – and the support of our beloved Norbertines – we give thanks and praise to God for resorting SNCP and changing it into something truly amazing.
Under leadership of the Norbertine College of Chaplains, Parish and Finance Councils ‘16/17 and other key leaders, we’ve experienced dramatic positive changes within the parish. The decision to create a Pastoral Leader/Deacon role, Director of music role, and the revival of the Liturgy and Worship Committee, are some of the examples of initiatives that have transformed our Sunday Mass experience by bringing stability and consistency to the liturgy. They’ve taken ownership and responsibility for ensuring that what we build today is sustainable for the future. On behalf of the Parish Council , we thank them all for sharing their gifts with us.
As pleased as we are with what we’ve accomplished over the last year, it’s safe to say what we are even more excited about what’s on the horizon. A few examples: Many of you know that we’ve recently rebooted our Generations of Faith program, as part of our faith formation initiative. If you’re not already, please consider joining us for these wonderful events (information found online or by calling the parish office). New this year is the creation of a ‘Student Engagement Committee,’ made up of students from our parish council, as well as other from throughout campus, that will focus on the ways in which we can best serve our students.
Thanks for taking the time to read this annual report. Should you require additional information, have questions about what’s enclosed, or want to get more involved with the parish, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the councils or the parish staff. Your friend on the journey, Travis

A Message from the Finance Council
Parishes operate on a fiscal year from July 1 to June 30. Our financial performance for this past fiscal year shows a net profit of $105,000. This is significantly different from the ($50,000) of net losses we experienced in the 2 previous fiscal years. Personnel costs were reduced by changing the Music ministry from full time to halftime, and ending the full time religious education director position. The Pastoral Leader position and halftime Music ministry position were not filled until the second half of the fiscal year. We anticipate 2017-2018 to break even.
As a tithing parish, (Proverbs 3: 9-10) we strive to give more than 10% of our parish revenue to outreach programs supported by our parish. How can we continue to meet this tithing goal? Our current budget calls for an average of $800 of parish support per unit. Last year 34% of our parishioners exceeded this goal. Unfortunately, numbers show that 200 units or nearly 50% of our units contributed $100 or less to support of our parish. If you are financially able, we are asking you to reflect/pray/consider contributing to the support of our parish.
