environmental technologies that people can benefit for a
better quality of life and a sustainable future.
To achieve our Mission, we focus on the
‧Simple to Apply / Use;
‧Minimize Capital Expenditure;
‧Not Energy Intensive (Require Little Non-renewable
Energy to Build, Operate and Maintain);
‧Use Local Resources and Labour; and
‧Nurture the Environment and Human Health.

Glossary
Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)
BOD is the amount of dissolved oxygen needed by
aerobic biological organisms in a body of water to
break down present organic materials. It is
measured in a given water sample at certain
temperature over a specific time period. The BOD
value is commonly expressed in milligrams of
oxygen consumed per litre of sample (mg/L)
during 5 days of incubation at 20°C and is often
used as a robust surrogate of the degree of
organic pollution of water.
Oil and Grease (O&G)
O&G is a measure of a variety of substances
including fuels, motor oil, lubricating oil, hydraulic
oil, cooking oil and animal-derived fats. The
concentration of these substances is typically
measured within a water body. Lakes, rivers,
stormwater runoff and wastewater are all
monitored for O&G. Sources of O&G are mainly
anthropogenic. O&G need to be reduced to keep
them from entering the environment.
Chemical Enhanced Primary Treatment
(CEPT)
CEPT is recommended by Word Bank as the most
effective and energy efficient method of water
and wastewater treatment. Chemical reagents
such as coagulant and flocculent are applied to
allow the suspended solids to settle faster thereby
enhancing treatment efficiency.
pH
pH is a measure of the acidity or basicity of an
aqueous solution. Pure water is said to be neutral,
with a pH value closes to 7.0 at 25°C. Solutions with
a pH value less than 7.0 are said to be acidic and
solutions with a pH value greater than 7.0 are said
to be alkaline.
Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
COD is a useful measure of water quality as it can
determine the amount of organic pollutants found
in surface water (e.g. lakes and rivers) or
wastewater. It is expressed in milligrams of oxygen
consumed per litre of solution (mg/L).
Suspended Solids (SS)
SS refers to small solid particles which remain in
suspension in water as colloid. It is used as an
indicator of water quality.
Coagulation
Wastewater contains small particles that suspend
in water forming colloid that carries the same
charge, opposes each other and prevent the
formation of larger particles. Coagulant is added
to neutralise the charge that results in easier
flocculation and faster sedimentation
performance of particles.
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH)
TPH is a term used for any mixture of hydrocarbons
that are found in waste water. There are hundreds
of compounds, but not occur all in one sample.
With different chemicals in crude oil and other
petroleum products, it is not practical to measure
each one separately. However, it is useful to
measure the total amount of TPH at a site.
Flocculation
Particles settle faster if they are heavier. By dosing
the flocculent to water, particles form flocs that
increase the particle size and result in faster sedi-
mentation by gravity.
Turbidity
Turbidity is the cloudiness or haziness of a fluid
caused by individual particles (SS) that are
generally invisible to the naked eye. The
measurement of turbidity is a key test of water
quality.

WetSep Water & Wastewater Filtration System
Introduction
The WetSep System is a patented product
providing a turn-key solution for wastewater
treatment. The WetSep is a versatile system
and can be applied in various types of
industries and applications.
WetSep has established itself as good
maintenance system and has satisfied the
requirements of many clients around the
world.
Surface runoff such as grit, suspended
particles and sewage from temporary
sanitary facilities will produce wastewater.
The wastewater usually contains high
concentration of suspended solids, BOD,
ammonia and E. coil.
In 1998, Waste & Environmental
Technologies Ltd. Innovated the WetSep
system. We have delivered the WetSep to
17 different countries including USA,
Australia, Singapore and Saudi Arabia.

Worldwide Experience
Vancouver, Canada
The WetSep system was installed for a
mass transit infrastructure project to
treat construction runoff. The system
provided a mobile slit management
solution with over 99% suspended solid
removal.
Washington, U.S.A.
The WetSep system was used to treat
construction wastewater from the site
of a new government building at the
U.S. Port of Entry to Canada in Blaine.
Ostersund, Sweden

generator replacement project for the
Hydro-Electric Power Station. It was
used to treat construction wastewater
generated from tunnelling and exca-
vation works.
Sydney, Australia

North West Rail Link project. It was used
to treat construction wastewater
generated from drilling and blasting of
the Australia’s longest twin rail tunnels
for water re-use.

1. Inlet
For influent piping connection.
2. Impinging Stream Reactor (ISR)
ISR combines the process of coagulation, flocculation and
sedimentation in one system, by using conical filter.
3. Oil Drain
Allow scum, oil and floatables to be accumulated at the top of the
unit and be pushed towards the oil drain by gravity. An optional oil
cartridge system can be installed to capture the oil and grease.

Chemical Enhanced Primary Treatment (CEPT)
is recommended by the World Bank as the
most effective and energy efficient method of
water and wastewater treatment due to the
high treatment efficiency.
The WetSep system uses the concept of CEPT.
The first stage of treatment is the Impinging
Stream Reactor (ISR) which does not require
any driven motors. Thus, it reduces the energy
requirement and simplifies the entire system. It
combines the process of coagulation,
flocculation and sedimentation in one system.
By precise engineering of the flow path, flow
rate, pressure differential and empirical data,
the treatment can be completed in one single
vessel.
Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
modelling, the performance of the WetSep
system has been optimised to meet the needs
of a wide range of influent water quality.
The influent water first passes into the ISR for
the first stage of treatment. The ISR removes
80-85% of suspended solids (SS), oil and grease
from the influent water.
The second stage of treatment is the Universal
Processing Chamber (UPC). It is designed to
be a modular unit that allows different
treatment systems to be installed, such as
lamella plates, coalescing plates, membrane
or rapid sand filter, to treat various types of
wastewater. The choice of module depends
on the requirements of the treatment which
varies from project to project.
Effluent from the ISR and UPC treatment
processes has suspended solid removal
efficiency more than 99.5%.
