Transcript of WET AREAS - FOCUSING ON WATER RESISTANT ... - Chad Group
Waterproofing wall frames is one of the key considerations when planning wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and other areas that may have exposure to
humidity. This is a requirement to avoid water leakage and protect the concrete underneath the surface whether or not the outside surface is tiled or painted, in
compliance to the requirements set by the Building Code of Australia (BCA).
WET AREAS - FOCUSING ON WATER RESISTANT PLASTERBOARD

Plasterboards are commonly used materials that helps
with improving a wall frame’s waterproofing capability.
The plasterboard helps in keeping the external surface
dry, undamaged and moisture resistant. Keeping the
wall safe from mould, leakage and other problems.
CHAD Plaster offers wet area boards from some of the
world’s leading providers: Gyprock, Boral and Knauf.
Gyprock Aquacheck is known for being an excellent substrate for Ceramic Tile because of its low water
absorption properties and dependent on moisture movement. Gyprock Aquachek complies with the AS/NZS
2588 Gypsum Plasterboard standard. It comes with a thickness of 10mm and 13mm. Plasterboards with 10
mm thickness vary in two widths - 1200mm and 1350mm while plasterboards with 13mm thickness comes in
1200mm in width. The lengths range from 2400 mm to 4800 mm depending on the width.
Boral has their own line of wet area boards known as WETSTOP. Boral’s lightweight plasterboard can be used
for both wet area internal wall and ceiling applications featuring its water resistant linings. It is also a suitable
substrate for tiling. WETSTOP is available in two types of edges: Recessed and square edge that is available in
9.5 mm or 12.5 mm. Its lengths vary from 2400 mm, 2743 mm up to 2038 mm.
German brand Knauf developed a standard wallboard that features moisture resistance, impact resistance,
sound reduction and reverberation, fire protection, control of water vapour, and thermal insulation. Knauf’s
Watershield helps resist moisture in in wet areas that mitigates structural damage on wall framings and
deterioration in the wet area’s appearance.
James Hardie, known makers of Hardiflex, offers a material called Villaboard. Villaboard is a flat, paintable,
ceiling or internal wall lining, can be wall papered or tiled. The material is guaranteed to maintain the wall’s
structural integrity even in high traffic areas. Its length ranges from 1,800mm, 2,400mm, 2,700mm, 3,000mm,
3,600mm and 4,000mm.
CHAD supplies plasterboard, cornices, rosettes, cladding, renders, textures, external mouldings, external
paint, & waterproofing membranes for residential or commercial applications.
