Welcome and Announcements
Acknowledging the Territory: Today we acknowledge that where we meet, worship and live was land that was first and is still loved and nurtured by Indigenous/First Nations people. We are Williams Treaty people (1923) within the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Iroquois, and Anishinabek people. May what we do here help to create a space where all people may meet and work towards right relations.
Call to Worship One: All of life is a circle. Many: Sunrise to sunset. One: Today to tomorrow. Many: Birth to Death. One: But... Many: “But”? One: But, there is One who, in one timeless moment, broke that pattern. One who conquered Death, not only for Himself… but for us all. Many: Jesus, whom we call the Christ! One: As people of God, as followers of the Christ, we are invited into this timeless moment. Many: So we come and we gather… One: and we worship our God. ALL: Alleluia! Amen.

Prayer Requests during the service // Our weekly worship service provides a time for submitting prayers of concern, thanksgiving and praise. You will find prayer forms in the pew pockets. Prayer & praise requests are collected along with the offering. Please place the completed prayer cards in the baskets as they are circulated and your weekly offering in the plates. The requests are read in the service during our prayer time together and then forwarded to our Prayer Team who will continue to pray for each concern.
Lemonade and ice tea in the narthex // Coffee and tea have discontinued for the summer and will resume again on September 8th. Lemonade and ice tea will be served during the summer months after worship in the narthex beginning June 23rd.
UCW Request // The UCW is co-ordinating the Bake Table for the Christmas Bazaar and would like to gently remind all cooks who are making jams, jellies, preserves, relishes, and pickles over the summer that the church would welcome some of your preserves for the bake table in November. If you are in need of preserving jars, we have jars in various sizes (minus the 2 piece lids) at the church for you to use. Please speak to Glenda L. for more information. Thank you!
WUC Food Bank // Many thanks for your donations to the Food Bank - items have been asked for and many of these have been received! If you have any reusable bags (cloth or nylon), would you consider donating them? We are trying to encourage their use and do our part for the environment. A few things that we currently need are: non-refrigerated milks (powdered, & nut milks), cereal, ‘lunch’ snacks, canned fish, meat & fruit, instant coffee, cookies, and coffeemate/whitener & women’s personal products. Thank you so much for your support!
Summer Greeters & Scripture Readers // Sign-up outside the office Consider signing up to greet at the door on a Sunday morning. It’s a great way to meet people and extending welcome to one another is an important part of who we are! While you’re signing up for that, consider being a scripture reader during Sunday worship. Both sign-up sheets can be found on the table outside of the church office.
Summer J.a.M. is here! Summer J.a.M is a scaled down version of our regular J.a.M program. This program is non-rotational and will be offered every Sunday from June - August for children in Junior Kindergarten - Grade 5. Please note that there will be NO Summer J.a.M classes on these dates: August 4 and September 1. As this summer program may involve outdoor activities, it is recommended that your child(ren) wear casual,
comfortable clothing to church (please no flip-flops or sandals … they are unsafe for running).
Summer J.a.M does not include programming for our older Just Jammin’ class or for our Nursery class, although the Nursery will be open every Sunday for children to use with their caregivers. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our children’s programming, please contact: Cathy Shaw, Minister of Faith Formation ([email protected])
WUC Debit/Credit Terminal // The terminal is available each Sunday in the gym after service, and Monday through Friday in the office during office hours. Use the debit/credit card terminal to make an offering; purchase tickets to events; and/or purchase Loblaws Cards. We accept debit, MasterCard and VISA. We have hearing assistance equipment available every Sunday // If you are hard of hearing or you wear hearing aids, we can assist you to enjoy the service. Either headphones can be worn without hearing aids or neck loops which can be used with hearing aids. If you wish to wear the neck loop you need to ensure that your hearing aids come equipped with a telephone coil (T switch). You can ask one of our ushers for assistance.
Being Stewards of God’s Earth // Summer heat can get the best of us and it can become less tolerable when the humidity is present. Many of us turn on the air conditioning, but is it always necessary? Turning on the air conditioner means higher energy use and electricity bills as well as the release of hazardous pollutants into the air. While the dreaded heat and humidity can reach levels unpleasant to our health and well being, here are some ways to keep your home cooler:
1. Keep your blinds closed (or invest in black-out curtains) and keep them closed throughout the day. 2. Keep lights off. 3. Use fans and if it is really warm place a bowl of ice or a large cooler pack in front of the fan which creates a light cooler breeze. 4. Install ceiling fans. 5. Close doors to unused rooms. 6. Avoid cooking appliances. Opt for cold meals and enjoy a few of your favourite summertime recipes. 7. Turn off and unplug unused appliances & electronics. 8. Use cotton sheets for bedding. 9. Take a cool bath or shower and add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to your favourite lather. (You can make your own body scrub with coconut oil, epsom salts and a few drops of peppermint essential oil). 10. Stay hydrated. 11. With long term in mind, plant shade trees around your house.
Bonus Tip: Camp at home — Pitch a tent in the backyard while enjoying the cooler nighttime temperature and fresh air.
