The purpose of the meeting is (1) to elect Elders for the Class of 2020; (2) to elect members of the Church Nominating Committee for the Class of 2020; (3) to elect Trustees for the Westminster Presbyterian Church Legacy Fund for the Class of 2020; (4) to review the church’s annual budget for 2017; (5) to hear a report on the State of the Church; and (6) to act on any other matters arising out of the above. On the Tight Side Wow! We’re now entering the phase of our renovation where usable space will be at its lowest. We are particularly challenged during this phase (most of February) with capacity for parking and restrooms. For parking, we hope you will consider carpooling, dropping friends and family off on Sundays, parking farther away and walking. For restrooms, we will have signs posted with directions to available facilities. We’ll have them to be sure; they’ll just be less convenient to access. Planning, patience and prayer might be the secrets to enjoying this historic time in the life of Westminster! On the Bright Side... Wow! Look at the progress!!! 5-cent Meal Giving — Hunger OfferingEvery month that has a fifth Sunday we receive a special offering for ministries to those who are hungry. We divide this offering, giving a portion locally, and a portion nationally and internation-ally through “The Presbyterian Hunger Program.”

Sunday, January 29, Hunger Offering envelopes will be available in the pew literature racks.

Disaster Relief and Recovery for East TennesseeIn lieu of supporting an organization that works to end hunger, this year's Souper Bowl of Caring offering will go to support wildfire recovery efforts in East Tennessee. Youth will be present outside each door of the Sanctuary on Sunday, February 5, and will look forward to receiving your generous gifts to support the rebuilding efforts of our neighbors in East TN.

Additionally, undesignated funds left in the offering plate on Sunday, February 5 will go to support wildfire relief and recovery. Thank you for caring for our neighbors!

How do we minister to one another in times of grief? Jarron Springer recently shared with me a poem that he wrote during a worship service at Westminster. I found the poem profound in that it gave me a window into Jarron's grief after the death of his son, Hayes. Hayes died in a tragic auto accident last June. In talking with Jarron, I was reminded that we all grieve differently, and we struggle with how to reach out to people who are grieving. What works for some doesn’t work for others. In listening to Jarron, I was reminded of how fragile life is, and how little control I have over any of it. I heard many of these thoughts reflected in Jarron’s poem.

Jarron wrote, "These past six months have been a ride of emotion but Jennie Rebecca (wife) and I have received so much love from the community, and especially at Westminster. It has also opened my eyes to everyone’s pain. It comes in all shapes and sizes. I have begun to see how everyone who is giving support does so because of the support they have received from others under whatever circumstances they have had put at their doorstep.” Jarron said, “I never write poems. But in some way it feels like a thank you card to people that have supported us, and I am acknowledging that they have pains too, and their support is coming in some ways as they reflect on their own circumstances.” I should note that Jarron didn’t ask for this poem to be shared, but I asked that it be shared to help us all reflect upon how we engage grief in others and in ourselves.

Peace, Donovan

Together Our Faith Is Bound

I saw you at the end of the pew, gasping for understanding.I saw you weeping for me,

surely wondering what could be done.I saw your heart aching,

forcing itself into your throat.I saw you gazing ahead,

thinking deeply into my past, trying not to predict the future.I saw your focus shaken,

pushing against mine as I watched.I saw your lip quiver,

but this I see now was about you.

You see in me similarities, but they aren’t the same.

You see in me pain you have felt, but you dare compare.

You see in me a place you've been, but you know it is different. You see in me acceptance,

we want to both reject. You see in me a missing piece,

and now we are connected. You see me here, and faith appears.

I see now this has little to do with me,

as you strive to give what you have received. We both see it's not over,

and the story has just begun.

Adult Education All classes meet at 9:45 am unless otherwise specified.

Throughout the Adult Education program we work to cultivate an environment in which diversity is valued and different opinions are respectfully engaged. Our Sunday morning classes are designed to be communities where members and visitors are invited to join the journey growing deeper in faith and fellowship. Some classes are geared more for “age and stage” of life, while others are intentionally intergenerational. During the year, special classes and speakers are arranged for the whole church to experience learning together. All are welcomed to become part of what God is doing through the education ministry at Westminster. We seek to nurture our members at all stages of their faith journey in ways that strengthen Biblical, spiritual, and moral foundations and affirm what we believe as Reformed Christians.
