Mission Statement
It is the mission of Compressions for Life to promote health, safety and well being in the community. This is accomplished by
providing professional CPR and First Aid Training to health care providers and other members of the community so that in the time
of need they will be prepared.
Lead Instructor
• Kevin Bernt is the lead instructor at our facility and has been teaching various pre-hospital medical classes for the past 10 years.
• He is currently employed as a Firefighter/Paramedic serving your local Kitsap Peninsula communities.
• He also instructs for Kitsap County Emergency Medical Services (KCEMS) as a Senior EMT Instructor
• During his tenure in the Fire Service, education has been a priority and passion for him, he has achieved five degrees; his most recent degree is a Masters of Science in Public and Fire Administration.
Why should I fit this class into my
busy schedule?
• Anyone can learn CPR!
• 70 percent of Americans feel helpless to
act during a cardiac emergency because
they do not know how to administer
CPR.
• According to AHA statistics home is
exactly where 88 percent of cardiac
arrests occur.
• The life you save with CPR is mostly
likely to be someone you know!
* Information provided by AHA
Why Learn CPR?
• Cardiac arrests are more common than you think, and they can happen to anyone at any time.
• Nearly 383,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually.
• Many victims appear healthy with no known heart disease or other risk factors.
• Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack.
• Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when electrical impulses in the heart become rapid or chaotic, which causes the heart to suddenly stop beating.
• A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart muscle is blocked. A heart attack may cause cardiac arrest.
*Information provided by AHA
Why Take
Action?
• Failure to act in a cardiac emergency can lead to unnecessary deaths.
• Effective bystander CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.
• However, only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander.
• Sadly, less than eight percent of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital survive.
• The American Heart Association trains more than 12 million people in CPR annually, to equip Americans with the skills they need to perform bystander CPR.
