A small number of Eastern or Mid-West branches of West Coast organizations have been elected members. The only requirement Member Organizations must fulfill is to send a delegate to the two semi-annual meetings and to permit free exchange of information in the fields of experi- mental mechanics. Presentations of formal papers are held to a minimum and discussion of these and workshops for problem presentation and solving are maximized. All discussions are tape re- corded, transcribed, and published in the proceedings along with the formal presentations. Every attending delegate re- ceives these proceedings. Those who miss a meeting may purchase them. The group was founded in the Spring of 1956. It was finan- cially sponsored by BLH Electronics until 1970. Since then the Committee has been financially supported by registra- tion fees and by ten sponsors who help defray the costs of the proceedings. Autonomous until 1971, WRSGC is now a technical division of the Society for Experimental Mechanics and all WRSGC delegates who attend meetings are SEM members. Board meetings are held on Mondays, followed by a meeting of the High Temperature Strain Gage Subcommittee and a board dinner. Meetings are held Tuesdays and on Wednes- day morning, followed by a tour of the facilities of a local, sponsoring member on Wednesday afternoon. Local hosts of the tours usually present a preview and welcome, and the Editor’s Note: The Status of Experimental Mechanics, 2nd Edition, is published by SEM to communicate the activities of the SEM Technical Divisions (TDs) so the membership can understand what the TDs represent, their history, how their re- search addresses everyday issues, and future directions. We will feature reports from this monograph in ET on a regular basis, including recent updates. If you are interested in receiving the published monograph of The Status of Experimental Mechanics, please contact SEM Director, Tom Proulx, [email protected]. P. All pro- grams include a business meeting. The Executive Board is elected by the group. The candidate with the most votes becomes Vice-Chairman / Secretary who then progresses to Chairman the following year and Past Chairman/Treasurer the year after, lending continuity to the group. The candidate with the next-highest number of votes becomes Program Coordinator. Three other board members complete the governing body of WRSGC. Anyone who is shown as Past Chairman, has served 3 years. Meet- ings are held in February and August, although some flexi- bility exists. Today WRSGC is the premier standards-setting group in the strain gage field, representing, as it does, over 80,000 chan- nels of signal conditioning. Its standards and definitions have been formally adopted not only in the U.S. by SEM and ISA, but also by OIML, the International Office of Legal Me- trology.
