Polding was on at the same time so they could not get kids to swim. Wendy
from warren agreed with Mark. Yvette advised that many parents have gone
from Canberra to Sydney and vice versa for many years and it makes it
cheaper as it is not two separate trips. Ru said that we will look closely at the

PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2011-2012
This season for the Area was another successful one with most clubs
participating at all carnivals throughout t the year as.
We commenced the season with a camp open to all clubs (with some
restrictions) to eventually look at selecting an Area squad of swimmers to
compete against other Areas in Sydney. With so much activity in the Area it
has been difficult to build on this throughout the summer months when
swimming is at its busiest. If we are to develop this squad for stronger
competition, we need to be mindful of how to best develop the squad and
ensure coaches who are best equipped to handle the roll of coaching the Area
squad and are not necessarily left to the few coaches who have busy agendas
within their own clubs.
This year our Area district carnival was held in Bourke for the first time, taking
the event away from Dubbo who had held the event for a number of years.
The event was very successful where a number of records were broken.
The committee would like to thanks all clubs that took part. Competing were
11 clubs out of the 26 clubs in the area. Whilst this was a little disappointing
as numbers were down, competition was still strong and all swimmers who
took part swam well for their respective clubs.
At this point I would like to again thank Bourke Club who put on a wonderful
weekend for all those who participated in the event. Also congratulations to
Dubbo City Swimtech who were champion club of the meet. I would also like
to congratulate Wellington who became the inaugural winners of the small
clubs trophy.
Congratulations to James Newall, Georgi York from Mudgee Indoor who were
senior boy and girl champion of the meet as well as Lawson Goldsmith,
Coonamble and Macy Morley of Mudgee Indoor who were junior boy and girl
champion of the meet. Congratulations to Michael O’Sullivan Coach Mudgee
Indoor for a wonderful job to get 3 of the 4 winners at the meet.
The Area introduced Club of the year based on attendances and performances
and the winner was Coonamble. Congratulations. Also along similar line as

club of the year congratulations go to Lachlan McCabe (Dubbo City Swimtech)
1st Senior boy, Nigel Baker (Coolah) 2nd senior boy, Georgia Baker (Orana
Aquatic) 1st senior girl, Georgi York (Mudgee Indoor) 2nd senior girl, Lawson
Goldsmith (Coonamble) 1st junior boy, Jordy Andriske (Coonamble) 2nd junior
boy, Bridget Goldsmith (Coonamble) 1st junior girl and Lydia Murray
(Coonamble) 2nd junior girl.
As in previous years the Area was represented at Speedo Sprint Finals and at
James Brophy. Our swimmers competed well at each of these events with
many recording PB’s and some records along the way.
At James Brophy our team was a little depleted but performed heroically with
swimmers performing extremely well and coming away with medals. The Area
congratulates Coach Mick O’Sullivan and Team Manager Yvette Newall for
their time and effort to get the teams to this level.
I take the opportunity to thank Yvette Newall for her input as Secretary of the
Area. In this area Yvette has put in a tremendous amount of work and effort,
probably at time to the detriment of her business. Also for all your work as
Team Manager of the representative teams.
Also to Kim Edwards our Area treasurer as well as maintaining the District
Website and Mick O’Sullivan for taking on the responsibility of coaching the
representative teams and achieving success with the overall performance of
the team.
To the Referees – thank you again for your timeless efforts throughout the
season. Let’s hope for those who have undertaken courses this year will one
day themselves wish to become referees so that we can have a smooth
transition in the ranks. At this time the Area congratulate Ingrid Hyland who
became a fully qualified referee under the rules of Swimming NSW. Also my
thanks to trainee refer Michael York who is learning to become a referee and
helped officiate at Bourke for the Area Championships.
If there are any people I have omitted I apologise, your efforts throughout the
year have helped swimming to run smoothly within our Area.
In closing I would like to remind clubs and their delegates, we now operate
under a new constitution and although we are slowly changing to the

requirements set down under that charter, we need to adopt the changes a
little more quickly than we have been.
I hope the new committee will review this and I wish them all the best for the
season ahead.
Thank you

Treasurer’s Report
For
2011/2012 Season This season the Association incurred a loss of $1,140.58. This loss has come
about by the following reasons:
Two clubs haven’t paid their affiliation fees for this season;
Development Day – was an expense that was not occurred in the previous
seasons. Although it was a great success and should continue next season.
Thank you to Mick O’Sullivan, Yvette Newall and the Development
Committee for organising this day.
Lastly, our carnival is our main income for the season and with entries well
down on last year, loss of program sales and Speedo and Brophy shirt
sales etc led to the loss. Thank you to Bourke Swimming Club for hosting
this carnival and supplying all the morning and afternoon teas to the
officials. Thank you to all the clubs that attended and supported this
carnival, but unfortunately the number of entries were down.
Recommendation
The affiliation fees to be increased at an agreeable amount by the
Committee and the two clubs that hadn’t paid this season’s affiliation fees
invoiced again along with next season fees.
Development Day – A small entry fee per family also seek assistance from
Swimming NSW Development.
Increase carnival entry fees if the expected number of entries will be
low.
I realise that the Association is not here to make money, but it cannot incur
future losses.

Speedo Team’s Report
For
2011/2012 Season This season thirty three swimmers made the Western District Speedo Team
and attended the Speedo Sprint Finals in Homebush on Sunday 11 March 2012.
Although the numbers were low compared to previous seasons, the team
represented the District not only in the swimming efforts but in sportsmanship
as well.
The Sprint Finals resulted in a lot of swimmers achieving PB’s and a special
congratulations to Lydia Murray who got to stand on the winning podium, not
once but three times, well done. Lydia won the 8 years girls 50m Freestyle, 2nd
in the 50m Breaststroke and 3rd for the 50m Fly. Other high placing’s were
Olivia Mulholland coming 5th in the 50m Breaststroke, Macy Morley coming 10th
in the 50m Fly and the Girls 13 and Under Medley relay coming 13th.
Once again congratulations to all swimmers on some excellent swims and
personal achievements whether it be in a placing or PB’s.
Thank you to Mick O’Sullivan for coaching this season. Mick was on pool deck
the whole day and never took a break helping the kids warm up, cool down,
handing out advice when needed and congratulating them when they finished.
Last of all thank you to the parents for making the commitment and travelling
to Sydney for this great event. If anyone has any questions regarding Speedo,
please do not hesitate to contact me and hopefully we will have more swimmers
attending the finals next season.

Re: Managers report Brophy 2012
Dear Committee and members,
Our Brophy campaign this year was a little disappointing after coming off last year big win. We
had some great results but mainly from our senior swimmers. It would be nice if those Swimming
Clubs with strong Junior Squads would promote Brophy as it really is helpful and very good
competition for those swimmers at that higher level. If we could get committee members to go back
to their coaches and please promote this Western Districts team I feel we would have a very
competitive team.
Brophy:
Brophy resulted in nearly every swimmer producing a PB and most of the swimmers producing a
PB in every event. Even though we had a full team, which was great, we did not have as many
medals as in recent years due many of our competitive junior swimmers not participating, those
junior swimmers who did participate though did a great job and as I said before many of them
smashing their personal best times which was fantastic. Our senior swimmers however did a great
job with Matthew Brouff breaking the 14yrs boys 50 Freestyle record. The medal we won are as per
below:
Alyisha Beckingham 16yrs Silver 50 Breast, Bronze 50 Free
Jason Blackford 15yrs Bronze 50 Breast
Matthew Brouff 14 yrs Gold 50 Free, Gold 50 Back, Gold 50 Fly
Shania Dimmock 14 yrs Gold 50 Free & 50 Fly
Macy Morley 12 yrs Gold 50 fly, silver 50 back, bronze 50 free (swam as a 13yr old)
James Newall 14yrs Gold 50 Breast, Silver 50 Free
Grace Sandry 15 yrs Gold 50 breast, 50 back, Silver 50 Free
Olivier Whitely 11 yrs bronze 50 breast
Georgi York 16yrs Gold 50 Free, 50 Back, 50 Fly, Bronze 50 Breast
And our wonderful relay teams
Western District
Silver 14-15 200 Medley Relay

On a whole I felt all the swimmers performed well.

The parents came away from Brophy this year praising the organisation and the advise, help and
coaching of our Western Districts Coach from Mudgee Indoor Mick O’Sullivan. Mick made sure
every swimmer went with their team mate to marshalling and also helped out with any pointers the
swimmer needed. I have got countless emails from parents on both the events that praised Mick and
said how much they enjoyed Brophy.
I was extremely proud of all of our swimmers as they all swam to the best of their abilities and were
all extremely well behaved and courteous. If anyone has any questions in regards to either of these
carnivals please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours faithfully,
Yvette Newall
