Desperately SEEKING SIRE.

“Kanukadale Solitare” Wanted a hair sample for

to be a Cremello but this was proven wrong and

he is a Perlino, dam of filly to left is Chestnut.

He was gelded and sold earlier this year at

would be around 4 years old

DOES ANYONE KNOW

WERE HE MIGHT BE?? If so contact the WABA Secretary.

test because the cream buckskin dam had to

carry At and probably carried Agouti, A(bay)

Test results for the At Brown Agouti gene, done by PetDNA a Diomics Company in Arizona which is the only lab able to

test this gene, bring up some interesting results. All the horses below had the comprehensive Agouti test, testing for both A

(bay) ands At(brown) and all came up positive for At (brown) except one and were all negative for A(Bay). The WABA

have also secured a discount for future testing with Diomics, and will cover postage for members wishing to test through via

WABA.

The 3 Brown Buckskins below all carry the same colour genes EE, nCr , Ata and all show the same colour characteristics.

Hi Sue:

Yes it is interesting to look at the Agouti results and compare them with the phenotypes. I forgot to say, but I really

appreciate that you sent such illustrative photos for all horses!

As far as I know, there is no obvious visual difference for At/a whether they are E/e and E/E.

Regarding At/a versus At/At, that is an interesting question. As you know, bay-A and brown-At restrict the body

distribution of black hair. The bay-A restricts black to the points (=bay color), whereas At restricts the black from

the muzzle, around eyes, belly and inner thighs. So its effect is much weaker than bay-A. I would expect that there

my be a difference between At/a vs At/At, and that the latter will show more restriction of the black (a dose effect

of the At allele).

We just do not have enough data from At/At horses to compare the phenotype effect with At/a in the same breed.

Also, there are other putative modifiers which can darken the color in bays, such as 'Sooty", so this may further

confuse the visual classification of the color. In any case it is somehow peculiar that At/At homozygote's are quite

rare, and I suspect that they may look more like bays and that's why people do not even test their 'bay' looking

horses for At. These horses of course would test A/A in the conventional Agouti test which is specific for the

recessive 'a' (in this test the bay-A and brown-At both look the same).

Thank you for planning to test more horses with us, and I am looking forward to providing our service for your

association! It's great that there are people like you interested in horse colors!
