News    Defending National High School Barber Champion Adi Patel (last years WV representative) and Nicholas Palmer, Clarksburg Notre Dame 2015 WV representative to the Barber Tournament at opening ceremony.              

Children's Home Society Chess Tournament  Craig Timmons held a tournament at Buffalo Wild Wings on Saturday Feb 28, 2015. It was g/10 d0. All the proceeds went to the WV Children's Home Society. It raised over $300 for the CHS---plus they received a portion of the proceeds from the restaurant. It was kids helping kids! The children's home society helps find foster families for the kids in the area.

TDs: Terry Wassell, Joshua Mankey  In the midst of autumn, there’s two things on the mind: Mountaineer football and chess.  I had a nice trip down to Morgantown with my father, and it was great catching up with the crew.  I was particularly glad to see my friend Caleb Aites, who was quite a rival back in the high school days.  Morgantown is an excellent location for chess (close to Pittsburgh, Bridgeport/Clarksburg, etc.), and I hope it only grows (especially since the tournament site is so close to Morgantown High School)!

WV Action Championship 2015 Mar. 28, 2015

TDs: Matt Richardson, Aaron Richardson The 2015 West Virginia Action Championship was held March 28th at the Community Building in Spencer, WV. Eleven players competed for the title. Armando Lopez of Daniels, WV and John Roush of Ripley, WV tied for first place with scores of 5/6, although Dr. Lopez took home the trophy due to tie breaks. Miguel Lopez of Daniels, WV won the U1900 class prize with a score of 3.5/6, while the U1500/Unrated class prize was shared between Travis Martin of Independence, WV and first-time tournament player Russell Stump of Spencer, WV with scores of 3/6. This event also marked the return to tournament play of John Richardson after a 30 year absence. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all who came out to play or watch!
