THE RANGEHOME OF WT WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Completed in the fall of 2013, The Range is the home of the West Texas A&M men’s and women’s cross country teams. It is a viewer friendly course with 2 X 3K loops for women (6K) and 2.8 X 3.5K loops for men (10K). The Range runs fast and is laid out generally flat with a few slight inclines and declines throughout and features a natural grass surface that is steam rolled with natural bound-aries (trees, tall grass) on both sides of the running path. Wood chips are laid throughout the course for even footing. It features a 600m straightaway start and a 200m straightaway finish while the entire path remains approximately 10m wide. The Range and the city of Canyon lie geographically at 3,525 ft. elevation.

“The addition of The Range is priceless,” explained wom-en’s head coach Kimberly Dudley. “It helps with training, exposure to our program, recruiting and hosting NCAA meets. We know that it opens another door to take our program to a higher level. We have great support from the Athletic Director and administration, so it will be fun to watch our course transform.” After just being completed in the early stages of the 2013 cross coun-try season, the Buffs and Lady Buffs hosted two very successful meets at The Range. The first event was the WTAMU Buffalo Stampede on Sept. 21, 2013. WT then hosted the NCAA South Central Regional Champion-ships on Nov. 9, 2013 when the Lady Buffs finished third to earn a spot in the NCAA National Championships. The Range also hosted the 2015 NCAA South Central Regional Championships and will host the championships for a third time in the fall of 2017.

THIS IS WT WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRYHEAD COACH KIMBERLY DUDLEY

The Lady Buffs continue to build on their success under Dudley. The three-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year has led WT to two team titles (2012 and 2014) and four LSC runner-up finishes over the last several years (2014, 2011, 2008 and 2005). She has also coached three individual LSC champions and two All-Americans. WT has four national appearances since 2008 and is one of LSC programs to have individuals finish 1-2-3 twice at the conference meet.

The 2016 season was highlighted by a third place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships with a young Lady Buff squad that had only one upperclassman. WT had

two freshman earn All-Conference honors at the LSC Championships where Nikolina Hrelec won the individual title and was named Freshman of the Year while Kelly McCaskill finished 14th. The Lady Buffs earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors with a cumulative GPA of 3.46 while Hrelec and Caitlyn Cecchini earned individual honors. In total, five student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall semester.

In 2014, The Lady Buffs swept the top three spots for the second time in program history to earn runner-up team honors. WT repeated as LSC Champions in 2013 before finishing third at the south central regional meet where three runners earned All-Region recognition. The Lady Buffs went on to finish 14th at the NCAA Championships. Emma Love earned

the prestigious NCAA Elite 89 Award which is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at the championships.

The Lady Buffs had arguably the best season in school history in 2012 when they won their first Lone Star Conference in program history. The team had five athletes earn All-Conference accolades. Brenda Sindet, Mireia Guarner and Amber Moore finished 1-2-3 as the trio later earned All-Region status at the south central regional Championships. At the NCAA Championships, the Lady Buffs finished 11th, a program-best, where Sindet and Guarner earned All-American honors by finishing in the top 40 individually.

Dudley graduated from WTAMU with her Bachelor’s Degree in 1994 while finishing her Master’s in Exercise and Sports Science in 1996. After graduation, she took over the head coaching position for the team and has guided numerous runners to All-Conference and All-Region accolades over the past 20 years.
