West Region Newsletter, 48, November 2015
Club News: Inverclyde CC opened a new net facility, on Tuesday 17
th November, at St Columba’s High School in
Gourock. The installation of the two lanes of nets forms the latest part of the club’s ambitious ‘Growing
Cricket in Inverclyde’ project – and congratulations must go to the club for their on-going commitment to
this project.
With the 2015 season now completed, each club’s TOPClub accreditation now needs updated. Each club
which has been on the programme will remain registered – but any certificate of
accreditation is now out of date. Any club wishing to update their TOPClub status in time
for the start of the 2016 season should get in contact with me to arrange a review meeting.
If your Club wishes to arrange a meeting with me (about Club Development), please ask someone to get in
contact and provide me with a couple of dates, times and a venue that would suit your Club.
Recent Meetings: Ferguslie CC, Greenock CC, Inverclyde CC, Irvine CC, Uddingston CC
Upcoming Meetings: Uddingston CC
Coaching News: A busy period of coach education and coach development opportunities finished on Sunday 15
th November.
Eight candidates attended ‘World Class Basics 1’ and sixteen candidates attended ‘World
Class Basics 2’. These workshops were designed and delivered by the Cricket Scotland
Performance Coaches and provided a very exciting insight into the latest thoughts on
batting, bowling, fielding, performance analysis and strength & conditioning.
The opportunities then continued with a ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ workshop and a ‘Basic First
Aid for Sport’ course being delivered by expert tutors, with a cricket background. Thanks must go to Colin
McDougall (Greenock CC) and Gill McElnea (Ayr CC) for delivering these workshops which were attended
by nine and eight candidates respectively.
Cricket Society of Scotland: The next meeting of the west branch of the Cricket Society of Scotland will take place at Titwood
(Clydesdale CC), starting at 7.30pm, on Monday 14th
December.
The guest speaker will be Tom Smith who is an all-rounder who plays for Lancashire CCC, bowling right-
arm medium pace and batting left-handed. He made his first class debut in late 2005 and was handed the
onerous task of replacing Glen Chapple as captain for the 2015 season.

Bring a Volunteer! For these workshops we are also encouraging club members to bring a potential volunteer or friend with
them. This should be someone you would like to become involved with your club; a keen new member, an
interested parent, or a friend with a specific skill that could help your club. We always identify that we don`t
have enough volunteers but how often do we ask and engage people in a meaningful way? Asking them
along to this workshop could motivate and inspire them to become a valued volunteer at your club.
