B uying an older home in Wembley was a good choice for a couple with young children — but the back yard needed a total makeover. Enter Sam Keats from Living Environs and a complete garden renovation plus the inclusion of a swimming pool and cabana to create the perfect outdoor area for a family. “We handled all aspects of the project from concept drawings, through to construction, landscaping and final handover with a bottle of bubbly,” he said. The focus of the outdoor area is the new concrete swimming pool that measures 8m x 4.3m and is 1.8m deep. The blue interior is Rainbow Quartz and a grey mosaic waterline tile blends well with the exposed concrete coping and paved edges in a honed wattle tone. There is a wide underwater seat alongside the three-step entry area to the pool. Semi-frameless glass fencing surrounds the pool area and there is a streamlined cabana at one end of the pool. The cabana is steel framed with jarrah timber decking beneath. The roof interior is lined with Glosswood that includes downlights. The cabana area is perfect for summer entertaining by day or night with an LCD television connected to cable to keep everyone entertained when out of the water. The pool equipment is concealed in one corner of the garden behind jarrah fencing and a curved rendered garden wall frames the long stretch of lawn. A pine lap fence was also installed and painted to screen the existing old fence line and there is an modern outdoor shower in a curved design set into a timber deck alongside a rendered wall. Timber decking also covers the concealed recessed box at the far end of the pool that holds the solar pool blanket when not in use. The garden plantings were designed for easy maintenance and include kangaroo paws, Cassa Blues, agaves, dracaenas and magnolia Little Gem. The outdoor garden lights complete the new environment with a combination of stainless- steel bollard lights, garden spike lights and eyelid lights all with LED globes.
