Combining our robust wireless communications with a modular I/O system to deliver the most flexible BEMS in the world.
Why WEMS?The reason is simple - we researched, designed and
manufactured our I/O to work wirelessly right from the
start. Many manufacturers started with a wired system then
attempted to ‘fudge’ a wireless product into it...not WEMS.
Starting with wireless at the forefront of our thinking and then
adding in other elements afterwards has enabled us to develop
a system that works not just wirelessly, but wired, or in a hybrid
manner too.
Our R&D team have spent several years and millions of
pounds perfecting our wireless solution, culminating in a range
of products developed to work together, or with other BMS
systems seamlessly.
Site ManagersIntuitive, simple to configure BEMS designed for rapid roll-
out and requiring minimal training.
Wireless I/OOur new MX range can not only be wired or wireless, but
can be configured to use hybrid networks. This flexibility
allows an integrator to value-engineer jobs, install and
commission quicker, cover more difficult sites and cause
less disruption during installation.
BACnet Gateways BACnet Gateways allow integrators to utilise our robust
wireless I/O with their BMS platform of choice, whether it’s
Trend, Siemens, Schneider Electric or Tridium. Using our
I/O allows integrators to install and commission more sites
faster and with less disruption than ever before.
Install 30% faster.Complete more jobs.Gain an advantage.Grow your business.

Why wireless? There are many misconceptions surrounding the use of wireless
I/O, namely that it’s too expensive and is only robust enough for
use in niche applications.
Our R&D team and our partners are dispelling these myths
and proving that wireless I/O is not only affordable, but gaining
in popularity. Our wireless I/O is now used in mainstream
applications such as retail stores, telephone exchanges, data
centres and transportation depots.
Benefits• Complete installations 30% faster
• Reduced out of hours working
• Reduced asbestos and safety risks
• Complete more installations due to less time on-site
• Less on-site disruption to client’s daily operations

WEMS MX - Site Managers
Site Manager 200Designed for larger sites, or more complex buildings, the Site
Manager 200 uses a powerful 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor,
combined with 2GB RAM and a 30GB SSD for optimum reliability
and speed.
The Site Manager 200 supports up to 250 wireless devices.
Site Manager 100Site Manager 100 is an ideal BEMS for a small to mid-sized site.
It operates using the same software as the Site Manager 200,
but has support for fewer wireless devices (suggested max. 16
controllers and 50 sensors).
The wizard-driven interface and relatively low cost make it ideal
for fast, multi-site rollouts that require less complex controls than
a standard BMS.

WEMS MX - BACnet Gateways
BACnet GatewaysOur BACnet Gateways allow systems
integrators to add WEMS wireless I/O into
3rd party BMS systems that are BACnet
compatible.
The Gateway itself acts as middleware
between the BMS platform and our
wireless modules and sensors.
The modules and sensors talk to the
Gateway using WEMS protocol, the
information sent is translated by the
Gateway and communicated back to your
BMS via BACnet, where all I/O appears
as native hardware.
Using a Gateway, systems integrators
can combine multiple different wireless
frequencies to suit different scenarios
and also mix wired comms with wireless
communications to create a system that’s
cost-effective for both the integrator and
client.
Gateway 200Our BACnet Gateway 200 allows any BACnet compatible BMS
to interface with the WEMS MX range.
The BACnet Gateway has a HTML5 user interface for discovering
and configuring MX I/O modules, sensors and any Modbus
points.
This discovery builds a table of I/O in the database, made-up
of analogue inputs/outputs, digital inputs/outputs and Modbus
points. The user can then simply use the standard BACnet
interface on a BEMS to discover the available I/O.
Supports systems with greater than 500 points.

Gateway 100The Gateway 100 utilises the same firmware as the Gateway
200, but is built to accommodate smaller sites with less
demanding I/O requirements and processing capability.
The Gateway 100 is a more affordable platform, ideal for
monitoring and controlling plant where wireless I/O is required,
but perhaps difficult to connect or extend with a wired solution.
Supports up to 500 points.

WEMS MX - An Introduction
WEMS MXThe MX I/O Range offers unprecedented flexibility to simplify installation and minimise overall installed cost.
The WEMS MX range of I/O is made-
up using clusters of DIN rail mounted
modules that plug together, like building
blocks. Each module is dedicated to an
I/O function i.e. digital inputs, thermistor
inputs, analogue inputs, analogue
outputs, relay outputs or communications.
This modular approach allows the user
to match the exact combination of points
required at each location.
Each cluster of modules requires a
Controller and a communications module,
which can be either wired RS-485, or one
of three wireless frequencies (434MHz,
868MHz or 915MHz).
Each cluster of I/O can use both wired
and wireless communications modules
concurrently to enable the creation
of a hybrid network. This mixing of
communications allows you to tailor
your systems to each building’s plant
and infrastructure and also allows you to
effectively value-engineer your projects to
deliver a faster, more efficient install.
Key Features:
• Concurrent wired & wireless comms
• Snap-fit modular I/O means no wasted
points
• Our wireless range is 2-3km line-of-
sight
• Routed discovery for hopped devices
• Compatible with WEMS Site Managers
and all BACnet compatible BMS via our
Gateways

Hybrid CommunicationsSupported by WEMS Site Managers or
Gateways, the MX modular range can
communicate wirelessly using 434MHz,
868MHz or 915MHz or alternately using
RS-485 for wired comms.
In the UK, Europe and many other
countries, 434MHz and 868MHz
frequencies are widely used and provide
fantastic wireless service.
The use of 868MHz frequency with an
amplification to 500mW (27dBm max)
power provides an optimum range.
Mixing these frequencies you can create a
long-distance backbone of up to 2-3 km
between wireless devices.
The adjacent diagram shows wired,
434MHz and 868MHz in a typical
arrangement.
915MHz comms modules are typically
used in North America only.

WEMS MX - Controllers
ControllerEach MX cluster must have a Controller,
which acts as a master, providing the
management of each module connected
to the cluster. Each Controller also
provides the power and communication
for the entire cluster via an intelligent bus.
Any combination of communication or
I/O modules can be connected together
in any order to tailor each cluster to meet
your requirements and the demands of
the building’s infrastructure.
Features• Pluggable, snap-fit modular system
• 2-part screw terminals
• DIN rail mount
• Status LEDs
Any combination of communication or I/O modules can be connected together in any order to make up a cluster to meet your requirements.

WEMS MX - Communications
CommunicationsAny cluster can have wired, wireless or
a mix of both communication types. You
can combine multiple wireless frequency
modules with RS-485 communication
modules into a single cluster.
This flexibility allows the cluster to
receive wirelessly and send out wired
communications to the next cluster or
vice versa. Any cluster can support any
combination of the modules listed here.
Integrators can combine multiple wireless frequency modules with RS-485 communication modules into a single cluster.
434MHzOur 434MHz narrow band wireless
module is 6.25mW (8dBm max) powered
and provides up to 2km line-of-sight
communications between wireless
devices.
868MHzThe 868MHz narrow band wireless
module supports amplification capable
of boosting the power output to 500mW
(27dBm max) and provides up to 2-3 km
line-of-sight communications between
wireless devices.
915MHzThis 915MHz narrow band wireless
module is 1dBm (-1dBm ERP max)
powered and provides up to 300 metres
line-of-sight communications between
wireless devices. Predominantly used in
North America.
RS-485Any cluster can have use an RS-485
module for traditional hard-wired
communications.
Communications from wireless modules
can also be hopped through the RS-485
module and vice-versa back to a Site
Manager or 3rd party BMS via a Gateway.

Helpful Stuff - FAQs
Got Some Questions?.Q How many modules will a controller
support in one cluster?
.A Each MX Module has an individual
power rating. Each Controller can
support up to a maximum of 20
modules.
.Q Can you stack modules in a panel
and link them together to a single
Controller?
.A Yes. You can link modules on DIN rails
using an interconnecting lead.
.Q How many clusters can a Site
Manager support?
.A Up to 126 clusters of multiple I/O and
up to 128 sensors.
.Q What cable is required for the RS-
485 communications?
.A We recommend Belden 9841 or
equivalent standard.
.Q Will modules fit in a standard
consumer unit?
.A Yes. They have a footprint similar to
that of a single pole Miniature Circuit
Breaker (MCB), with each module
being 25mm wide.
.Q Are the products UL approved?
.A Yes. All MX modules & sensors meet
UL and CE approvals.
.Q Will your wireless system work in
an industrial environment?
.A Yes. We have many clients in all
sectors from telecoms, transport,
leisure, retail and large manufacturing.
.Q What are the signal ranges for the
wireless modules?
.A All signal distances are based on
line-of-sight and will be affected by
building materials if used internally.
• 434MHz can transmit up to 1km
• 868MHz can transmit up to 2-3km
• 915MHz can transmit up to 300m
.Q Can I combine any frequency of
wireless signal?
.A In North America there are regulations
permitting only 915MHz whereas in
Europe, Central & South America
and many other countries you can
combine 434MHz and 868MHz freely.
.Q Is there a specific order of modules
within a cluster?
.A The only requirement is that a
Controller must be used to provide
power and manage the other
modules. Apart from this you are free
to combine any type of modules in
any order up to a maximum of 20
modules.
.Q Can I extend the range of the
system further?
.A Yes, the range can be improved
by using clusters as repeaters. For
example, if a sensor was too far away
to communicate with a Gatweay
or Site Manager directly, it could
communicate to a closer cluster. This
cluster will then relay the data on
to the Gateway or Site Manager via
wired or wireless comms.
