WEST VALLEY LIGHT OPERA ASSOCIATION The object of the Association is to promote cultural activity in the area and to provide opportunities for drama students and others who have dramatic aspirations to take part in theatrical productions under the guidance of professional directors. West Valley Light Opera is fortunate to have secured the services of Mr. Sherwood Goozee as Director. His picture and past accomplishments appear elsewhere in the program. It was under his skillful direction that our first show of this season, "Oliver", was produced. We sincerely hope that you enjoy our shows. One unique feature of this Association for players is that we operate the entire year. To accomplish this, a group was formed from among our membership. This group is called THE OVERTURES. They consist of six males and six female singers, two pianists, a Director-Choreographer and a Lighting Director. THE OVERTURES provide a training ground for stage presence and experience to newcomers to our group, a pool of talents fdr odr productions, and maintain interest on the part of our players between shows, t hey are available at reasohable rates to perform for business, civic and fraternal organizations. SHERWOOD GOOZEE has been active in the theatre since graduation from University of the Pacific. Mr. Goozee, while in the Navy, initiated the Hilltop Playhouse on the Island of Guam. On Broadway he acted in "A THURBER CARNIVAL", Other credits include three seasons of summer musical stock in New York, professional road tours , and a season with the Hyatt Music Theatre. Mr. Goozee. who
is now teaching in the San Jose school system, spends his summers working in theatrical productions. The West Valley Light Opera shows directed by Mr, Goozee a re : "OLIVER", "HERE'S LOVE", "ONCE UPON A MATTRESS", "BELLS ARE RINGING", "GUYS AND DOLLS" and "GYPSY".
MARION LINDSAY recently moved to this area from the Eas tern seaboard where she was deeply involved in regional theatre . She brings to West Valley a broad educational background with i-ichly diversified experience in mat ters per taining to the theatre and the dance.
Mrs. Lindsay has been a member of Dance Educators of America since 1956. She has studied with some of the finest teachers of dance in the country, principally in New York City, and has had extensive training as a choreographer. She taught stage movement and dancing on the faculty of the Pittsburgh Play House, and for over ten years operated her own studio. In addition, Mrs. Lindsay has choreographed and directed several musical productions.
