Second Exits – Background• Most subway stations have more than one exit.

• All new TTC stations are built with at least two exits.

• 2002 Fire and Life Safety Assessment Study identified 14 priority stations needing a second exit.

• TTC program retrofits existing stations to provide an additional exit out in case of emergency and to improve customer convenience.

What are Second Exits?Second exits serve three functions:• As a primary exit if the main exit is blocked in an emergency.• As an additional exit in an emergency.• As a convenience to customers.

Wellesley Station Second Exits/Entrances Construction update

• Wellesley Station will be getting two second exits/automatic entrances to improve customer safety and convenience.

• TTC is coordinating with local developers to build integrated second exits and automatic entrances within the new condominium developments at 17 Dundonald Street and at 587 Yonge Street.

• The underground tunnel connection (located underneath Dundonald Street connecting the second exits to Wellesley Station) was completed by TTC in Fall 2016.

• The completion date and official opening of these second entrances/exits is dependent on the condominium construction. Closer to this time, TTC construction crews will return to install the PRESTO fare line equipment, other electrical/communication systems and the station finishes.
