Dear Parents and Carers
The summer term is a busy time of the year. The school calendar is full of events: sports’
days; rounders’ competitions; concerts; assemblies; coffee mornings; reports and par-
ents’ meetings.
It is good to be able to meet you at these events and celebrate the achievements of each
and every child. The success of your child involves staff and families working together.
We are really pleased that parents have offered their time and skills to support the
school in so many different ways.
We value your feedback. Please
take the time to let us know what
you think using Parent View on the
Ofsted web page: https://
parentview.ofsted.gov.uk
This newsletter includes snapshots of the rich and varied opportunities taken up by the
children this term. We are very proud of each and every child’s achievement.
Please do put the dates in your diaries. We look forward to seeing you at one or more of
these events.
Joy Rushton
Acting Head Teacher
The Welldon Park School choir sang brilliantly at the annual Harrow Music Song Fest concert.
On 28th June, our choir joined with over 200 Harrow school children to form one ‘super choir’
under the capable hands of conductor, Jo McNally at the Kadwa Patidar Centre.
The children had loads of fun showing off their musical talents through a diverse range of songs,
including some complicated action songs. As always, Jo had the audience singing along with the
children!
Thanks to every parent who helped their child to memorise all twelve songs. Thanks to Miss
Rushton and all the parents who came to support the children at this amazing event, it was
great to see so many of you there.

Julius Caesar
Primary Shakespeare Company This year, 5M had the pleasure of taking part in the PSC
Shakespeare Project. The children have worked with a drama
specialist perfecting their performance of scene 1 from Julius
Caesar.
We are waiting to hear which school was awarded the prize
for the best scene. Reports from the play were very positive
and the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

such rich learning opportuni-

ent instruments.
In addition to lessons, 73 chil-
dren have taken up the op-
portunity to learn an instru-
ment including: keyboard;
The children in year 3 had a fantastic experience learn-
ing about the Romans in St Albans. The City has
some of the finest Roman mosaics and wall plasters
outside the Mediterranean.
The children were given the opportunity to try their
hand at creating their own clay tiles embossed with
images.
The children behaved superbly and were excellent am-
bassadors for the school.

Violin Exams
Our first group of violin pupils to take Trinity Graded exams are looking for-
ward to receiving their results any day now. They all had to learn three
different pieces, play several scales and answer questions about music. We
wish them all the best: Dominik Gomulka – Initial Exam ; Abira Kuneraja,
Ben Sumar, Chiara Lecca, Krishanth Sujeevan – Grade 1.
John Lyon School Junior Music Day 28 April
Welldon Park was represented by a group of violinists at The John Lyon School
Junior Music Day, where an orchestra of 120 young musicians from schools across
the borough came together to work with the John Lyon School Music staff led by
Music Director Huw Jones for a day of rehearsals ending with a concert for par-
ents. JLS provided unlimited doughnuts and refreshments and we all enjoyed
playing music by Handel and Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter. Congratulations to:
Ben Sumar, Chiara Lecca, Krishanth Sujeevan, Sanica Srikkanan, Abira Kunerajah and Yabsera Michael.
Harrow String Festival 28 March
On 28th March Welldon Park violinists enjoyed a day of
rehearsing followed by a concert in the Elliott Hall, Har-
row Arts Centre. This was part of a two day festival for
year 5, 6 and 7, drawing string players from schools across
the borough to play a range of music from Yellow Subma-
rine, by the Beatles, to Beethoven’s Ode to Joy. Well
done Ben Sumar, Chiara Lecca, Krishanth Sujeevan, Sani-
ca Srikkanan and Yabsera Michael .
Mayors’ Fund for Music Scholarships
We were honoured to achieve two Scholarships from this prestigious scheme which supports young musi-
cians for four years. Krishanth Sujeevan and Chiara Lecca have both enjoyed the extra opportunities the
scholarship has given them and we wish Krishanth all the best with his music studies as he leaves Welldon
Rounders’ Team Hit Gold P a g e 4 S u m m e r T e r m
On one of the hottest days of the year, our Rounders’
Team achieved gold medal status at a recent competi-
tion. The standard of play was extremely high yet the
children were not put off. They played and won all
three games.
The children were excellent representatives of the
school and their sporting ability was commented on by
the staff members of Hatch End school.
Well done to all the competitors.
Mr Walsh, Sports’ Coach
We are very grateful to the students and staff of Harrow School. This
year, some of the boys and teachers have visited year 6 on a weekly basis
to read together. As well as weekly visits, the boys have been fundraising
for the school. The Director of Shaftesbury Enterprise is planning to visit
us next week and present the school with the proceeds which will be put
towards ways to enrich our curriculum through drama; outdoor education
and reading.
Thank you to the staff and students of Harrow School.
The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every
year during the summer holidays. You can sign up at
your local library, then read six library books of your
choice to complete the Challenge.
There are exclusive rewards to collect along the way,
and it’s FREE to take part! We would like every
child to take part this summer.

Snap Chat
Warning
The smartphone app “Snapchat”, which is very popular amongst students, has re-leased an update called “Snap Map” which allows the user’s location to be shared among “friends”. This feature broadcasts the exact location to “friends” on a map, which is accurate enough to determine the location of the user. This information is enough to build up a picture of where you live, your travel route and where you go to
school. This is a serious safeguarding concern for children.
The intended use of this feature is to allow friends to meet, examples of this are to meet at points of interests or at a restaurant. However, users can add people that they have never met before. By default, location sharing is off for users, but users are prompted to share their location to “friends” or to selected friends when the feature is launched. Switching off Location Sharing on Snapchat: In the Photo mode, pinch the screen to open “Snap Map”
Tap the cog in the top right of the screen
Tap “Ghost Mode” to turn off location sharing
Snapchat Restrictions The minimum age requirement is 13 + .Those between the ages of 13 and 17 are re-quired to have parent consent and those under 13 should be directed to the more child friendly “Snapkidz” app. Risks arise from the user being lulled in to a false sense of security in believing their photos disappear when the reality is that photos can still hang around via a screen-shot. The recipient taking a screenshot renders the photo just as permanent as any other photo online. Whilst Snapchat does endeavour to inform the user when a Snapchat message has been screenshot, there is little that can be done to ensure the privacy of that photo. There is also no way of knowing if a photograph of the original photograph has taken with another device. If your child uses Snapchat, please have a conversation with them and ensure that they are using the app safely. It is always useful to know your child’s password for their phone and individual passcodes for apps. If you would like more information on
