What difference does a social enterprise make?
 Provide ‘added value’
Work at the heart of communities so better understand their needs and wishes
Access additional funding streams and resources Access additional funding streams and resources
More flexible and resourceful ways of working
Preventing ill-health, saving the NHS considerable monies
 Joint-working creates happier patients
Used to managing quality services on a very tight budget
 Flexibility enables creative thinking
 Wider networks, experience and skills
Common sense, simplistic and creative approaches15
How we can potentially help you ...
Provide services to your patients on our sites or in their homes
Be your eyes and ears and signpost Be your eyes and ears and signpost
Provide more ‘low level’ health interventions; eg weight management, smoking cessation, non-invasive health checks; emotional health services
 Gathering/distributing information
 Referrals (two-way)
 ... ... ... ... ...16
To summarise …
We are experts and have robust infrastructures and sound business cases – otherwise we would not have SLAs or receive grant funding
Working in the third sector is a profession and a vocation – we are serious about what we do and are dedicated to helping people; serious about what we do and are dedicated to helping people; therefore we do the best we possibly can with the resources we have
We are not the cheap option but a different, more proactive option and can and will ‘add considerable value’ to services. We are at the front end of prevention and ‘self-care’, do not work ‘in silos’, thwart unnecessary NHS spending (due to ‘reactive’ health care and time spent dealing with complaints). We are therefore worth working in partnership with and investing in and need ‘full cost recovery’/core funding and realistic financing in order to run and sustain services to the standards you require in order to help you and achieve results that surpass all expectations!17
Suggestions to ponder …
Invite us to present/hold workshops at your summer schools or other training events
What ‘low level’ interventions can you identify that What ‘low level’ interventions can you identify that we could help you with that have not already been described?
We are not restricted to working in Carmarthenshire or with specific age groups or communities of interest – our proven model can be delivered elsewhere and can be tailored to meet your local needs
