NTU’s Welding Technology Program is a performance based program that prepares students for the welding industry. There are no prerequisite courses or certifications required for the program. Students who successfully complete the program coursework are eligbible to test for their welding certification, The program applies procedures used in the stuctural steel, sheet metal, and pipelines utilized in the industry and the American Welding Society (AWS). The welding facilities at the main campus meet all requirements of the AWS standards and procedures.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has concluded that career paths in Welding Technology have job growth in the years to come. The NM Workforce website lists industries that support welding jobs among the top 25 in areas such as: • support activities for mining, • construction of buildings, • petroleum and coal products manufacturing, • and oil and gas extraction

The Certificate in Welding Technology focuses on applying technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Welding skills are developed with supported courses.

Welding Technology

NTU’s certificate in Welding Technology requires 32 credit hours. The minimum credit load for a full-time student is 12 credit hours per semester. Credit hour requirements for the certificate include:
