Standard Twist Wheels - Knot-type construction provides aggressive brushing forheavy-duty applications.

Knot Wire WheelsThe individual knot wire tufts of a knot wheel provide minimal flexibility for more aggressivebrushing action. Weiler's knot wheels are constructed with an internal steel plate that hasequally spaced individual holes around the perimeter. Wire is inserted through each hole andtwisted into a knot. Each hole has precisely the same wire count, thereby assuring perfect balance. This eliminates vibration, reduces operator fatigue and increases brush life.

Polyflex Encapsulated Brushes are ideal for extremely demanding applications. They areespecially well-suited for users with the following types of requirements:

• Extreme brushing pressure - Encapsulation protects wires from over-flexing and extends brush life relative to conventional knot and crimped wire brushes.

• Severe cleaning operations - Encapsulation holds the wire tips rigidly in place and creates the most aggressive brushing action that can be achieved with a wire brush.

Black (Extra Heavy-Duty) elastomer is a heat stabilized elastomer that does not wear easily;used primarily for cleaning pipeline welds. Minimizes smearing on hot parts.

Safety StandardsComply with the safety standards of the American NationalStandards Institute: • ANSI B165.1 “Safety Requirements - Power Brushes" • ANSI B7.1 "Safety Requirements - For the Use, Care

and Protection of Abrasive Wheels".

Guards Keep all machine guards in place.

In some instances throughout this resource guide, guardshave been removed from machines to better illustrate productapplications. Guards must be kept in place at all times whenproduct is running!

Protective Equipment Appropriate protective clothing and equip-ment must be used where there is a possibility of injury that can be prevented by such clothing or equipment.

SpeedsObserve all speed restrictions indicated on brushes, abrasives,containers, labels, or printed in pertinent literature. MSFS meansMaximum Safe Free Speed (RPM) - spinning free with no workapplied. For reasons of safety, MSFS or Maximum RPM should notbe exceeded under any circumstances.

Tool/Work RestOn bench grinders and pedestal machines, tool/work rests shouldbe used to support the work-piece during use. It should have amaximum opening of 1/8" to the product face. Only adjust the restwhen the product is not in motion.

Machine ConditionsProper maintenance of machines and power tools isessential to keep them in safe operating condition.Special operating instructions furnished should beclosely followed. Hoods and safety guards must be

kept in place at all times. Use adequate spindle diameter for thebrush – do not use brush larger than the machine was designed forand have sufficient power to maintain rated spindle speeds. Provideproper ventilation and/or exhaust systems on all brush and abrasiveoperations (ANSI Z88.2)

Safety Goggles Safety goggles or full face shields worn over safetyglasses with side shields MUST BE WORN BY ALLOPERATORS AND OTHERS IN THE AREA OF

BRUSH AND ABRASIVE OPERATIONS. Comply with the require-ments of ANSI Z87.1 “Occupational Eye and Face Protection”.

Inspection and StorageUpon receipt, inspect products for damage, rust and deteriora-tion. Store in original containers in a clean, dry location. Do notallow distortion of brush filaments / components or foreign mat-ter to become lodged in brush face.

Avoid Excessive Pressure When UsingPower BrushesExcessive pressure causes over-bending of the fil-aments and heat build-up resulting in filament

breakage, rapid dulling and reduced brush life. Instead of greaterpressure on a brush, try: (1) a brush with more aggressive cuttingaction (increased wire size, decreased filament length, differenetbrush type, i.e. knot type instead of crimped wire type), or (2) high-er speed (increased RPM, increased brush diameter).

Dust and FumesWear respiratory protection against this hazard (see ANSIZ88.2).

Warning: Failure to observe safety precautions may result in injury.

Many manufacturers mark some safety warnings, recommendations and usage restrictions directly on the product. However, it is notalways practical to include even the most limited safety information on the product itself. Therefore, the operator MUST READ and FOL-LOW all instructions supplied in or on the product container as well as those marked on the product. The operator should also refer tothe safety and operating information printed in this catalog and other literature.

Before Starting Product:Use eye protection and safety equipment. Inspect product forrust, damage, etc. If RPM marked on the power tool is higherthan the RPM marked on the product, do not mount the product.

And Don't Forget:Inspect and jog machine to ensure that the product is mount-ed properly and securely, machine guards are in place, novibration, etc. Run machine at operating speed for at least oneminute before applying work. Do not stand in front of or inline with product.

Brushes Are Non-LoadingUnlike non-woven, bonded and coated abrasives, wire brusheswill not load when brushing soft materials or when used toremove paint and similar coatings.

This resin fiber disc did notwork very long before the grainsbecame loaded with material.

This power brush, however, cankeep on working without everbecoming loaded with material.

Avoid excessive pressure when using a wire brush.Excessive pressure causes over-bending of the filaments andheat build-up resulting in filament breakage, rapid dulling andreduced brush life.

Weiler's Individual Knot Hole ConstructionWeiler's knot wheels are constructed with an internalsteel plate that has equally spaced individual holesaround the perimeter. Wire is inserted through each

hole and twisted into a knot. Each holehas precisely the same wire count, there-by assuring perfect balance. This elimi-nates vibration, reduces operator fatigueand increases brush life.

Crimped Wire Brushes:• Made of wire that is crimped to allow individual filaments

to support each other.• Provide flexibility for light to medium duty brushing action.• Use on parts that could be damaged by the impact of a

knot brush.• Use for a broad range of applications.

Knot Wire Brushes:• Made of heat-treated straight wire filaments twisted as

a single unit like a piece of cable or wire rope.• Provide less flexibility and more aggressive brushing

action in heavy-duty applications.• Use on parts requiring high-impact action.• Use to remove large burrs and heavy contamination,

such as multiple layers of rust, scale, paint or oxides.

Knot Configurations

Standard Twist:A slight tuft at the end of the wire knot provides some flexibility for use on irregular surfaces.

Stringer Bead Twist:The wire is very tightly twisted to the end of the knot, creating a narrow face with high-impact action, primarily used for weld cleaning.
