Coming into School

Your child will be expected to come into the classroom, put their things away and start their morning jobs. The classroom door is shut at 8.40am and an adult then takes the register. The children will go through the lunch options with this adult.

Your child will need to change their reading books first thing in the morning too, so drop off could be a good time to remind them.

As the year progresses the children will have morning activities.

Typical School Day in Year 1

8.30-8.50: Registration & Early morning activities

8.50-9.10: Worship (Class/Whole School/Phase) Monday and Friday

9.10-9.30: Phonics

9.30-10.10: English/Maths/P.E

10.10-10.25: KS1 Break

10.25-11.40: English/Maths/P.E

11.40-12.40: Lunch

12:40-12.50: Register

12.50-1.00: Whole class handwriting (cursive)

1:00-1.50: Topic/PE/outdoor learning/Forest school

1.50-2.00: Fresh air break

2.00-2.50: Topic/PE/outdoor learning/Forest school

2.50- 3.00: story and get ready for home

3:10: Home time

Typical Weekly Timetable

Expectations

Each day, we expect the children to come into school wearing the Bramley School Uniform.

No rucksacks or backpacks in school. Children only need a reading folder and a string PE bag (which will stay in school).

All clothing and water bottles MUST be named.

No toys or pencil cases.

PE kits need to be named and these will stay in school for a half term.

In winter, the children may well become cold, wet and muddy. A complete change of clothing is essential. Plain navy or black tracksuits (without obvious logos) may be worn in cold weather. Also a carrier bag to put dirty shoes in is useful.

PlannersKey Stage One planners are red.

Your child’s planner is expected to be

used every day.

Planners will include:

-A weekly reading record

-House point Charts

-Space for children to stick their award stickers

We will check your child’s planner weekly to monitor their reading at home.

Outcome events

Over the year the children will have outcome events based on the topics they have been learning about.

Parents will be invited to some of these, where children can share their work.

These events usually take place at 2.30pm.

We will not be holding events each half term. We will notify you when they will be.

Home LearningThe children will be expected to read 3 times a week and for this to be

recorded in their planners.

In addition to this, we will set Maths, spelling and topic home learning. This will be given out in our home learning books at the beginning of each half term. The expectation will be that your child will spend no longer than 20 minutes

per week on any home learning task.

What makes a superhero?

Forest SchoolAll children will carry out Forest School in the Summer Term for a 6 week programme. You will receive more information about this during the Spring term.

Forest school will carry on no matter the weather so please ensure you child is prepared. If children do not have appropriate clothing it will be down to the teacher’s discretion as to whether they think the child will be safe in forest school with the clothing that they have.

It is really important that children have adequate clothing for Forest school. This is to protect the children from ticks, stings, bites or in some cases rashes. We advise that children wear long sleeve tops and bottoms to every forest school. If the weather is warm the children still need long sleeves tops and trousers. Please be assured the children will not over heat as the forest area is all under cover and it is very nice and cool. When the weather is wet the children need to have waterproof clothing.

PhonicsPhonics is carried out daily for 20 minutes. Children will be split into 4 differentiated groups based on phonics assessments.

We follow the letters and sounds programme which has an order of how and when to teach each sound.

In June the children will all take part in the Governments Year 1 Phonics screening. This test has 40 words for the children to read, half being real words and half being fake “alien” words.

There will be a phonics workshop for parents to attend this half term, details will follow shortly.

Children need the following in school daily:

• Their planner (reading, stars etc.)

• PE kit (Wednesday and Thursday)

• Water bottles
