ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

The school was founded in Amhurst Park in 1904 by the Servite Sisters. Our ethos therefore is derived from and based on Servite Values. Those values include openness and respect for diversity therefore, whilst many of our teaching staff are not Catholic or Christian, all staff appreciate the strength of the faith community to which they belong. All members of the school community are included in the holistic vision of evangelisation as ‘shaping tomorrow, inspired by faith’. Our Marian commitment to service provides a working climate that enables teachers to thrive in their work; our girls are engaged learners, teachers can enjoy practicing their craft and students have a desire to achieve and have personal ambition.

We recognise the uniqueness of each individual student and have strong links between academic and pastoral systems to ensure that provision meets the needs of all students.

SHAPING TOMORROW, INSPIRED BY FAITH

We are a school with a strong and tangible sense of community and belonging. We genuinely believe in preparing our students to become compassionate and caring citizens, aware of their global responsibilities. The school motto, found on our crest, is Nitendo Vincamus, which translates as “Through our efforts, we overcome”. It was with this in mind that the sisters of the Servite Order opened our school in Stamford Hill in 1904, providing educational opportunities for some of the girls of Hackney. Today, we still work with this in mind; to support our students, to work with them and for them, to remove barriers to achievement and to work together to enable success. We are all ‘shaping tomorrow, inspired by faith.’

ABOUT THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

As a department we pride ourselves on our commitment to excellence and the impact we have on the future prospects of students. The Science team is a highly successful department within the School. The Additional GCSE results for summer 2017 were 95% A*-C which placed us in the top 9% of Science departments nationally. We follow a three year KS3 course which students are encouraged to develop key literacy, numeracy and practical skills. At KS4 the department follows the Edexcel, combined and separate specifications. At A level students follow OCR for Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The department has a commitment to enriching students experience in Science through extra-curricular activities including after school clubs, STEM trips and visits to universities. This, combined with our proven academic success has resulted in a large number of students who study Science at GCSE opting to continue studying A-level Sciences at the school.

As a new member of the Science team we would hope that you would be keen to contribute to and share in these continuing successes.
