what your Peer Mentor has
planned for you!
• Your Engagement Community was created with incoming students from the same Faculty as you!
• You may also meet other incoming students from the same program as you (e.g., Sport Management)
• Your Community is led by a Peer Mentor and is supported by a Senior Leader – both upper year students.
Visit your Engagement Community throughout the first six weeks of the Fall Term to see posts from your Peer Mentor, other students,
and to participate in engaging events and meet-ups.

Tips for connecting virtually
• It is best to sign in with your microphone on mute. And only unmute when speaking to avoid feedback and background noise.
• Feel free to have your camera on or off, whatever you’re most comfortable with, but we think seeing folks’ faces is awesome!
• Utilize the chat and “hands up” features.
• Live captioning is available in teams and may be utilized by any attendee
• When signed into teams with your student account, your full name will be displayed to other attendees
Tips for online get togethers
• Try to attend events “live” (synchronously) so you can interact
• Add to comments made by others, share when you have the same question, use emojis and appropriate GIFs to help create a sense of solidarity
• Ask what virtual groups and events people are attending and plan to go together
• Make yourself visible and be responsive. Your activity in online events and meetings will help others become more familiar with you
• Push past the awkward and stretch your comfort zone by contacting others
• Send DMs through teams, engage in the chat, say a virtual "hello" when you run into someone you see again in another online setting
• Getting to know your fellow Brock students now, will make it like you are meeting old friends when you do get to meet in person!
Making friends online
We wish you the best as you start your Brock experience! We can't wait to meet you.
