Inclusion At Wimbledon Chase
Wimbledon Chase is an inclusive school supporting children with a range of special and additional education needs. There are opportunities throughout the year for you to discuss, with the class teacher or the Inclusion team, any concerns you may have regarding your child.
In addition we have a speech and language provision; the Ark and Study classrooms. Specific children access some of their learning in these classrooms but are included in and are part of the whole school. Children who work in the Ark or Study join their mainstream class for chosen learning experiences to suit their individual needs.
The inclusion of all children with additional needs as part of our diverse community is celebrated and welcome across the whole school.
Yearly Curriculum Overview
Autumn Term This term, we will be reading Skellig and The Highwayman as our class books. We will also
be learning about the Romans in Britain. This includes our trip to Fishbourne Palace and
our Roman Exhibition later in the term, where everyone dresses up! We will also be performing our Christmas Concert with the rest of Phase 3.
Spring Term As well as preparing for the SATS, we will be reading Floodlands and Bear Grylls Survival
Guides, whilst combining this with our studies around Central and South America.
Summer Term So much happens in the summer in Year 6 – it is our busiest term! The SATs first, then
Activity Week either in Aberdovey, Wales or here in Wimbledon. After half-term we have

Our Curriculum
During the morning we complete our English and Maths lessons.
Children complete English activities in their class groups. These activities
include reading comprehension activities, writing, speaking and listening,
drama and a variety of other activities.
Children will usually be taught Maths in their class groups. These lessons will
be differentiated to ensure the appropriate amount of challenge and
support.
Our afternoons are usually when we use our topics to teach geography,
history, art and DT sessions, as well as science.
RE, PSHE, music, PE and French may well be taught in the morning or
afternoon. There is a copy of your child’s class timetable in their diary.
Please remember that timetables are flexible.
Homework and Spellings Homework is important as it helps your child to practise the skills they have learnt in school.
Encouraging and supporting them to complete it on time will ensure they understand everything that is being taught in lessons.

Expectations In Year 6
We expect everyone to follow our school’s Golden Rules
• Excellent behaviour for learning.
• Independent and organised learners.
• Leaders of the school taking on extra responsibilities.
• Good role models who show a caring attitude for the younger
year groups.
Rewards and Sanctions
Each class will have its own set of rules or ways of working which have
been agreed with the children and its own ways of recognising and
encouraging good behaviour and work.
If children find it hard to follow the Golden Rules or class rules, then there is
a clear sequence that will be followed.

Mobile Phone Usage and Esafety
Mobile phones and the internet are a fantastic resource and part
of everyday life, but each year we are dealing with more
incidences of children misusing these resources and not keeping
themselves and others safe.
Follow our Pupil Mobile Phone Policy.
Whatsapp has a minimum age requirement of 16, and most other
social media sites of 13.
Fortnite is for over 12s.
Year 6 SATs
11th – 14th MAY 2020 All children are formally tested through written papers in the
following subjects:
Reading – 1 Paper
Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation – 2 Papers
Maths – 3 Papers
Writing is assessed continually throughout the year, with the final
standard decided upon at the end of June.
Please do not practise any SATs papers from 2016 onwards as we
will use these for assessment purposes throughout the year.
High School Applications
Merton Local Authority High Schools Online Application Deadline 31st October 2019
Please check all application procedures and deadlines for all other school that you may be interested in.
Independent School References All independent schools will require class teachers to write a reference for your child. Please understand that this takes us time on top of our normal workload.
If you know that you will be requiring this, we ask you to send in no more than five bullet points of extra information that you would like included in your child’s reference.
E.g. clubs they have been involved in; particular interests and strengths; sports activities etc.
If your child is also applying for a scholarship award such as for sports, arts or music which requires further references, then please send this form to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
Next A Few Reminders
For Everyone!

Rubber and a sharpener.

These items are also very useful:

Home- School Communication
We all know being able to speak to a member of staff when
you need to is important and vice versa.
Here’s how:
• Brief notes in the homework diary.
• Brief conversations at the end of day – do wait until all
children have been dismissed.
• If you require a longer meeting, please arrange this
through the office or by letter.
Daily Routines
Beginning of the day The school is open from 8:45am for Phase 3 children. Children should not be
left unattended in the playground before this time.
Please note that children are not allowed on the play equipment or to play
ball games before or after school.
If your child arrives after 8:50am you will need to sign them in digitally at the
school office.
Children have early work set in registration time and it is important for them to
be on time, otherwise over the course of the week they could miss up to an
hour and 15 minutes of learning time.
End of the day
Staff will dismiss the children onto the playground to
meet with the named contact who is picking them
up at 3.30pm. We must have written permission if
your child is walking home on their own.
Please write a note or ring the school before 2.30pm
to inform the teacher if someone different will be
picking up your child.
If your child is not collected promptly, they will be
asked to wait in the school office, from where you will
need sign them out digitally.
