Supporting our studentsWhat are WE doing?

• Planning the year comprehensively with detailed Long Term Plans and Schemes of Work

• Following a rigorous assessment schedule

• Providing the students with exam hall examination practice for sections of the exam

• Including English Language revision within the Year 10 Pastoral Programme on Fridays

• Providing Period 6 sessions on a Wednesday for targeted Year 10 students – teachers to inform students

• Beginning tutor time intervention for targeted pupils following student assessments

• Providing all students with folders to help with organisation

• Teacher intervention to support with Creative Prose Writing (40 marks available)

• Increase of SPaG/technical accuracy/spelling tests in lessons to support with 50% writing (‘The Big Write’)

• Launch of ‘Bedrock’ – a programme to develop students’ vocabulary (in English lessons and during tutor time)

What can YOU do?

• Ensure your child is equipped and organised (clear pencil case, x2 highlighters, ruler, black pens)

• Ensure your child attends Period 6 on a Wednesday after school when requested to attend

• Support with Home Learning completion and holiday tasks set

• Check the spelling lists and test at home regularly

• Assist and support with revision for mock examinations (see Class Charts for sample papers, student booklets, etc)

• Encourage as much wider reading as possible

• Support with students’ writing by checking their SPaG when completing any work at home

• Complete practice papers regularly to support with the difficult timings of the examinations.

• Know your log on for ‘Bedrock’ to check student progress and encourage additional, independent use of the programme

Year 10 SCIENCEAll our students will have 6 exams, for the students taking the double award exam each exam will be 1 hour 15mins in length.The students taking the three separate sciences each exam will be 1 hour 45 mins.
