WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer Gloria Johnson Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Presentation of Tithes and Offerings

Offertory Anthem - Flight Song Kim André Arnesen (b. 1980)All we are, we have found in song: you have drawn this song from us. Songs of lives unfolding fly overhead, cry overhead: longing, rising from the song within. Moving like the rise and fall of wings, hands that shape our calling voice on the edge of answers you’ve heard our cry, you’ve known our cry: music’s fierce compassion flows from you. The night is restless with the sounds we hear, is broken, shaken by the cries of pain: for this is music’s inner voice, saying, yes, we hear you, all you who cry aloud, and we will fly, answering you: so our lives sing, sing, wild we will fly, wild in spirit we will fly. Like a feather falling from the wing, fragile as a human voice, afraid, uncertain, alive to love, we sing as love, afraid, uncertain, yet our flight begins as song. (Euan Tait)

*Offertory Response Hymn 251 - verse 5 and refrain MFURAHINI, HALELUYAChrist has arisen to set us free. Alleluia, to him praises be.Jesus is living! Let us all sing; he reigns triumphant, heavenly King.Let us sing praise to him with endless joy.Death’s fearful sting he has come to destroy. Our sin forgiving, alleluia! Jesus is living, alleluia!

*Affirmation of Faith adapted from Philippians 2 Christ Jesus,

who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,

but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death -- even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

WE GO IN GOD’S NAME

*Hymn 326 - For All the Saints SINE NOMINE

*Charge and Benediction

*Closing Response Hymn 238 - Refrain JUDAS MACCABEUS Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; Endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.

*Chiming of the Trinity The worship service ends with the Chiming of the Trinity.

Please be mindful of those who remain to listen to the postlude.

*Postlude - Sine nomine arr. Charles Callahan (pub. 1995)***

In a series of 20-minute videos, historian and teacher Dr. Ray Vander Laan illustrates how the events of Jesus’ day impacted his life, ministry and communication…and then you’ll learn how it affects yours. Filmed on location in Israel, these Faith Lessons weave together the Bible’s fascinating historical, cultural, religious, and geographical contexts. A structured discussion follows each video lesson. The classes begin after the 8:15 a.m. service and conclude in time for participants to attend the 10:15 a.m. service. Visitors are welcome for all sessions, beginning June 9 and extending through August 11.

WMPC | May 12, 2019

For over twenty years, the Older Adult Ministry has sponsored overnight trips to interesting and exciting locations. These adventures provide times of great fellowship, informative sightseeing and much fun for those traveling with us. This Spring in April, forty-seven White Memorial members and friends traveled to Charleston, and enjoyed sightseeing in this historic and award-winning city and its surroundings. Our days were full and exciting as we toured one of the most charming and unique cities in

the South. We started by riding horse drawn carriages through narrow streets as we learned about Charleston’s storied history and saw its many famous landmarks and churches. While we were touring Magnolia Plantation and its beautiful romantic gardens, we rode a Nature Train to visit the Swamp Gardens and saw many water loving creatures (think alligators) and abundant

bird population. We had lunch with peacocks nearby, which was a real treat indeed. That afternoon we boarded a boat and cruised through Charleston’s harbor and viewed the city from the water, as well as Fort Sumter and other islands nearby. After a dinner feast at Hyman’s Seafood Restaurant, we attended an unforgettable concert featuring music that defined Charleston’s rich heritage – gospel, Gershwin and classics.

The next morning we headed to Patriot’s Point – one of the world’s largest naval and maritime museums – and we were moved by the immensity of Yorktown Aircraft Carrier and its history in combat as well as peacetime operations (like the recovery of the Apollo 8 capsule and astronauts after they successfully orbited the moon in 1968). Lunch this day was near the City Market where we had some extra time for shopping. In the afternoon we enjoyed both a driving and a walking tour of Charleston, so we could have a greater appreciation of all it has to offer – including seeing The Citadel and its beautiful Chapel, the Battery and its magnificent waterfront homes, and Historic District with its wrought iron gates, well kept gardens,

and single-wide houses with their famous piazzas. After a delicious seafood dinner on James Island, we enjoyed our traditional and special sing along with the Morehead Ramblers – WMPC’s own John and Sandy DeLuca leading us in delightful fellowship and song.

On our last day we visited the Charleston Tea Plantation and saw thousands of tea plants growing in the fertile low country soil. We learned how they are harvested and processed in this unique location. We had a picnic lunch among the live oaks in this serene setting and then we were off to see Angel Oak – a huge tree with enormous spreading branches – and we gathered there for one last group photo. Those who went with us know why we look forward to these trips every year, and we truly had a wonderful time! We invite others to join us when we travel again next Spring. Watch for more information later in the year, and plan to come travel with us! You will be glad you did!
