in your house to hear your Word and to experience

community. Give us eyes to see the tempter’s snares,

ears to hear your promises, and hearts committed to your

ways. Fill us full and overflowing with the power of the

Holy Spirit as we worship you today! In Jesus’ name we

Prayer of Confession (11:00)

Gracious and loving God, we find it difficult at times

to place our trust in you. Too often we look at the

world, and see only violence, pain, destruction, and

signs of hopelessness and despair. Too often we rely

on our own strength, our own plans, our own

devices, rather than trusting in your hand to hold us,

your love to sustain us, and your wisdom to see us

through. Forgive us, Lord. Help us to turn to you in

all our circumstances and for all our needs Restore

unto us the joy of your salvation and renew our

spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Children's Church (8:30 & 11):

Children in kindergarten and younger have the option of

going downstairs to room B4 with the nursery worker

after the pastor's time with the children. Parents, please

check your child in before the service at the kiosk in the

nursery hall or go downstairs with them to check them

in. All children are welcome to remain in the services

with their parents as well. You can create an account in

our new KidCheck system by going to go.kidcheck.com.

Team Leaders: Please compile your ministry’s budget for

2018. All budgets need to be turned in by the Finance

Team meeting on August 17. If you did not receive a

copy of the ministry proposal sheet in an email, you can

pick one up in the church office. Please return all

proposals to holly@horneumc.net or put in the finance

mailbox outside of the church office. Thank you in

3rd Annual Community

“Back to School”

Collection

ONLY 2 WEEKS LEFT!

With your help, Horne Memorial will again be a major

supporter of this community-wide event to provide

2,000 under-resourced children with back packs & basic

school supplies. DONATE ITEMS BY SUNDAY,

AUGUST 6: (collection boxes outside of the church

office)

• Composition Books (non-spiral bound, black &

white front) – need 1,200 total!

• Crayola (or similar) Skinny Washable Markers –

need 600 boxes!

• Crayola (or similar) Fat Washable Markers –

need 600 boxes!

• Backpacks for Elementary-age children - 100!

• Cash Donations: We’ll shop for you! Any

$ amount accepted! Checks made payable to

Horne Memorial, with “Back to School” in

memo line.

Back to School Sunday will

be held on August 20.

We are sending students and

educators back to school with

our prayers and blessings.

Students and educators are

encouraged to bring the back

packs and bags to the service to be blessed.

Our third graders will receive Bibles at

all 3 services.

The students will not have Sunday

School this Sunday, so they can

participate in worship.

Youth Sunday, August 27

All 3 services will be held in

the fellowship hall.

Come enjoy a service full of

testimony and grace from

our youth. We will not

have children and youth

Horne’s College Ministry is looking for

Adopters and Adoptees! The College Ministry

provides college students with support and

encouragement through cards and notes, as well as the

occasional “care package”! If you have a son or daughter

or know of another young person who has been part of

the Horne family and would enjoy hearing from us,

please consider registering them for the 2017-2018 school

toward our goal of $300,000 for the

renovation of the Sanctuary. So far,

we have $234,545 in pledges!

We celebrate such generosity by our fellow Horne Family

members. You are invited to join those who have already

responded. It will take all of us to restore our Sanctuary

space to a condition of beauty that honors God.

You now have the opportunity to use eGiving to make

your donations to the Love Your Church Campaign. Just

up is available at our church

website under worship. Monthly

reminders to sign up will be sent

out with the link provided. You

can also call the church office to

sign up. Flowers are $50. Checks

should be written to Horne with

flowers in the notation. We have

lots of openings for flower sign-ups in May-August!

The Flowers on the altar today are given by Sarah Wood

in honor of Sarah Beth.

Contemporary Service Worship Leader

Position: Mary Kelsay is stepping down from the staff

role as Contemporary Service Worship Leader. We have

been blessed with her leadership for many years as she

led our praise band. We are now looking for a part-time,

Spirit-led Worship Leader to fill this role. If you are

interested contact Pastor Jonathan Jeffries at 919-602-

Thank you to all who participated in this year’s Golf

Tournament. We had 137 players, 59 Tee Sponsors, and

over 31 volunteers.

The profits will be used by the UMMen for ministries like

the new church van.

The winning teams will be listed in our August

Newsletter. If you did not play this year please plan to be

a part of this special event next year.
