• Important to keep in mind that the “end goal” is to improve early literacy skills for children
Library Research in Early Literacy
• Experimental research conducted from 2005-2007 with
results for children and adults: Carroll County, Maryland
• Subsequent research project: Pierce County, Washington
• Current research projects: Los Angeles, Columbus Ohio,
Washington State • Future project: ECRR
The power of teaching parents & caregivers An initial workshop with a homework
assignment to do activities at home A take home kit of materials and resources Ongoing support in the form of an occasional
phone call or e-mail message A follow-up workshop with time to share and
discuss children’s growth
