Values Based Recruitment.

The University of Northampton, Faculty of Health and Society, supports the Values stated in the NHS Constitution, see www.hee.nhs.uk

It is an approach which attracts and selects students, trainees or employees on the basis that their individual values and behaviours align with the values of the NHS Constitution. To ensure that the future and current NHS Workforce is selected against the values of the NHS Constitution.

These values are utilised in our recruitment and selection processes, so that we recruit for the right workforce not only with the right skills and in the right numbers but with the right values to support effective team working in delivering excellent patient care and experience.

Being Brilliant and the 6 C’s of Nursing –Our Nursing Vision.

19.

• Care is our core business; care defines us. People receiving care expect it to be right for them consistently through every stage of their life

• Compassion is how we care through relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity

• Competence means having the ability to understand an individual’s needs and the expertise, clinical and technical knowledge to deliver effective care and treatments based on research and evidence

• Communication is central to the caring relationship; listening is important, as what we say and do is essential

• Courage to enable us to do the right thing, to speak up, to have personal strength

• Commitment to our patients, to improve care, and the experience of our patients.

Being Brilliant principles.

20.

'Brilliance' is about:- Choosing to have a positive attitude;- Developing emotional intelligence;- Going the extra mile and- Bouncing back when times are tough.

The question we ask is, “why be ordinary…when you can be brilliant?‘”

Our strategy is inspired and supported by the work of Andy Cope and Andy Whittaker from 'The Art of Being Brilliant.'

European Nursing Module

21.

• The University of Northampton is one of only 4 Universities in the country that can offer a 2 week placement in one of around 21 different European cities. Mental Health nursing students have been to other countries outside of Europe.

• This is to experience a different health system, culture and life experience

• In Europe and other parts of the world.

• This is available to our Students

• This will be an opportunity at a specifically negotiated time during the programme within the 2nd or 3rd year

• Students do have to meet the costs themselves though these are kept to the minimum possible

• The two weeks away do count as placement hours as agreed with the NMC.
