• The implementation of the provincial restrictions and lockdowns reduced our social interactions to near zero. As the province gradually moves away from ‘Stay Home’ we are beginning to return, in a small part and with social distancing, to see our friends. Please remain on alert and follow the province’s recommendations to keep our friends and families safe.

Sask Parks

Council members and senior staff meet with Sask Parks three times annually for the exchange of information and initiation of joint projects.

• Parks has indicated that the fish cleaning shack has been renovated

• Signage at the boat launch area is needed for public education. This is something that Sask Parks is working on.

• A memorial recognition for former parks staff member who passed away has been erected on the beach.

New Sewage Lagoon:

Complete and operational.

Primary Cell is now at 70% capacity.

Old Lagoon:

Phase 1 – fluids pumped to the new lagoon primary cell in 2019 and spring2020.

Phase 2 – primary cell will be decommissioned in Fall 2020.

2020 Dust Suppressant:Using Magnesium Chloride as last year

First in May. Some areas did not take as well as last year due to dry roadbed.

Rain has aided the dispersion.

Second in August, date at discretion of Public Works.

Public Works now has the ability to mix and apply small quantities of suppressant. We have had success with localized applications.

Right-of-Way Trimming:

Encroachment of trees and bush on the Right of Ways continues to be a problem.

2020 approach is to aggressively cut back overgrowth as Labor allows.

Due to Budget considerations, No mechanical Attachment was acquired in 2020. This will need to be acquired in 2021 to improve efficiencies.

2020 Dutch Elm Disease:• Both the Town and Private property have some disease.

• Symptoms of EBB infected trees usually first appear on a single branch with wilting & yellowing of foliage.

• As symptoms progress, more of the tree becomes affected with branch dieback,wilting, yellowing & browning leaves.

• Refer to the Province of Saskatchewan website for more information.

Town of Regina Beach will remove diseased trees on Town property only.

The Province’s Dutch Elm Program ended in 2010.

Drainage Works: Spring Culvert Flushing is complete. A few problem areas are ongoing.

16th St E drainage improvements start July 17. A combination of Surface Swales and Culverts will be

installed on the East Right of Way. Brush and tree clearing will be as selective as the works can

accommodate.

400 Block West survey and design is underway.

8th St E Storm Sewer has been flowing 365 days a year. The works will be monitored for movement. First

measurements were taken this spring. The next set will be fall then continue twice a year.

MEEP Grant: This grant is deliverable over 2 years.

The application Project Description included 3 items:

• Sidewalk Replacement West side of Center St.

• Roadworks and drainage 2nd Ave East of Center St.

• Roadworks 5th Ave East of Center.

We will be starting with Sidewalks, 2 blocks on the west side of Center St.

Regina Beach Parks and Recreation

Parks & RecreationSince March, we as a community have experienced something unlike anything we have ever seen before, and Parks & Recreation wanted to do whatever we could to help during those times; even though it has not been business as usual for the recreation department. The social distancing & facility closures required to flatten the curve of Covid-19 have challenged us all, & forced us to adapt our programs, adjust our delivery & find new ways to engage & connect with others. Having to shift our operations dramatically, we found some new & innovative ways to keep our community connected & staying active during these closures. We offered things such as the “Community-Wide Window Walk,” Virtual Dance, Virtual Yoga and a Facebook group called “South Shore Community Staying Connected” which was a place to share positivity. We were also able to take the opportunity to think about our current programs/activities & find ways to improve or expand on them.

Years from now, as we look back on this time, we will recall how much we learned from & inspired one another.

There were many (& still are) questions about the future with all the uncertainties we were

(are) facing. Will playgrounds open? Will summer events happen? Will programing happen?

Well now that things have changed a bit, we are able to reopen some things, and we will

continue to work on what fall programming may look.

Despite some of the cancellations, some of the Town’s programming has adapted to guidelines & is moving ahead this summer.

▪ Outdoor Pickleball Tuesdays 4-8pm, Thursdays 9-11am & Sundays 10am-12pm

▪ Lions Park basketball court is open

▪ Lions Park play structures are opened (& sanitized twice daily)

▪ Yoga is back at the Culture Centre Tuesdays 7-8pm, Thursdays 10-11am & Saturdays 9-10am

▪ Swim Lessons will be held July 27th- Aug 7th

▪ Babysitter Training Course will run in August for those that were registered in April

▪ Amazing Race for kids & teens will be held (date to be determined)

▪ Looking into Dog Agility & Manners classes (TBD)

▪ Dance Camp will be held Aug 5th-7th for ages 5-9 and Aug 19th-21st for ages 10+.

▪ There is also a potential for a partnership to offer some Waterski/Wakeboard lessons with Waterski Wakeboard Saskatchewan this summer (TBD)

Centre Street Beautification

▪ Committee representing the ratepayers plan to make improvements to Centre Street in preparation for The Town of Regina Beach 100th Year Celebration

▪ Following a sharing of ideas, a plan for this year and the next two years is being developed.

Improvements for this year will begin in July and the target date for completion will be September 1., 2020. Improvements include:

Work on the towns entrance Gateway including

▪ clean up around the Regina Beach sign.

▪ Addition of low maintenance river rock. Removal of 2 diseased trees.

▪ Addition of new logo celebrating our 100th anniversary (Est 1920).

▪ Repainting of the sign.

▪ Addition of 3 entranceway flags/flagpoles representing Canada, Saskatchewan and our provincial Roughriders

Welcome to Regina Beach Banner

• Installation of two steel poles to be places on the east and west side of Nicol Avenue.

• 27 Foot Banner Welcome to Regina Beach Banner (with logo) will be strung across Centre Street. This banner will be removable to allow us to change it up as our seasons change.

Main Street Makeover Week

During the week of August 10-14, there will be a call out for community volunteers as we work on maintenance needs including:

• Repainting the benches

• Painting some fences and poles around garbage cans etc.

• Addition of new garbage receptacles

• Mowing, whipper snipper, weed pulling etc.

• Letter to Centre Street residence outlining our efforts and anything they can do to assist will be much appreciated!

Maintenance to Town Office

• Repair of the underground sprinklers/fertilization in efforts to bring the grass back to lush

• Removal of the Mugo Pine in front of the office

• Pruning of the bushes along Fairchild
