Summer ORISE Fellowship Opportunity at CDCIntroductionThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH), Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS), is seeking Summer ORISE Fellows to focus on public health issues related to the environment. Candidates will join projects associated with developing and applying new methods to characterize and quantitate biochemical markers that are relevant in environmental exposures and chronic diseases. The fellowship carries a stipend of approximately $2,500/month for full-time summer fellows. QualificationsCollege students who plan to major in chemistry or biology and have taken courses in general chemistry or biology may apply. They must also comply with safety and security requirements before or upon reporting to CDC. Application ProcessThe appointment is through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education. The application may be found at http://orise.orau.gov/cdc . Send a resume, a copy of an official transcript, and recommendations or your application will not be reviewed. Send all application materials to DeAnna Copeland at ORISE, Attention: CDC-NCEH-2013-0001 UPO, at [email protected]. The postmark deadline is January 18, 2013. June 10 - July 19, 2013NUCLEAR FORENSICS UNDERGRADUATESUMMER SCHOOL 2013University of Nevada, Las Vegas http://pearl1.lanl.gov/external/nuclear-forensics/ For the summer of 2013, The Department of Homeland Security (Domestic Nuclear Detection Office – National Technical Nuclear Forensics Center) is sponsoring a summer school for undergraduate students interested in an intensive introduction. In its fourth year, this six-week summer school, to be held June 10 -July 19, 2013 on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus in Las Vegas, NV is designed to provide comprehensive, experimental, hands-on training in topics essential to nuclear forensics as a means of interesting students in pursuing graduate studies in technical fields related to nuclear forensics.

The Government Relations Office would like to make you aware of this scholarship opportunity for OSU students pursuing an internship in Washington, DC – please circulate. The OSU Alumni Association and alumni from the D.C. area created the National Capital Leadership Award as a mechanism to assist OSU students who are eager to experience life in our Nation’s capital. The ideal student applicant will intern in a congressional or judicial office, government agency, nonprofit organization or association, or private organization in the Washington, DC, area. For the 2012-2013 academic year, two $3,500 awards are available for two undergraduate students. The application deadline for winter term is December 24, 2012.The application deadline for spring or summer is February 28, 2013. This program is designed to meet the needs of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) for appropriately trained personnel in research and development in areas pertinent to Nuclear Nonproliferation and International Safeguards (NNIS). This fellowship seeks to build collaboration between the leading nuclear technology programs and the schools studying the policy aspects of nuclear nonproliferation. The primary emphasis of this fellowship is to produce doctoral graduates who are familiar with both the technical and policy aspects of nonproliferation and international safeguards.

A tremendous scholarship-for-service opportunity to fully fund your undergraduate or graduate education. The SMART (Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation) Program will pay for all educational expenses for a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program, and then provide scholars unique opportunities to work as research scientists or engineers on cutting edge technology in world class Department of Defense facilities.
