Welcome to the Madera County Workforce Assistance Center

The Workforce Assistance Centers in Madera, Chowchilla and Oakhurst, are the America’s Job Centers for Madera County. They were created by a Federal Law called the Workforce Investment Act to assist people in accessing services related to employment, education, and training in their local community. We are “the eyes of the employer” and expect nothing but the best from the job seekers who represent this Center. Madera County Workforce Assistance CenterResource Room Policies

• No food or drinks;

• No children unattended in Lobby;

• No loitering inside or outside of building;

• Cell phones are not to be used inside Resource Room or Lobby;

• Computers and customer internet services are for job search activity only;

• Time limit of one hour will be enforced in the Resource Room if the demand for computers is excessive;

• Customers are to conduct themselves in a professional manner;

• Madera County Workforce Assistance Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please leave your personal items at home;

Madera County Workforce Assistance Center Resource Room Policies

• No public access to Restrooms;

• No outside CDs or Flash Drives will be allowed on computers;

• Due to limited space, no strollers or visitors will be allowed in the Resource Room;

• No public parking in back of building; all customers must park on street;

• Maximum of 5 copies are allowed and must be job related;• Computers are property of Madera County Workforce Investment Corporation.

All computers are monitored by Staff to insure that customers are job searching and are not on inappropriate websites. Staff has access to view, send warning messages and blank out screens if necessary.

Madera County Workforce Assistance CenterResource Room Policies

• Please dress appropriately during all job search activities;

• A phone is available for job search activity only. All calls must be logged by a Staff person. Please keep calls as brief as possible;

• A courtesy phone is available for customers who want to file or have questions regarding Unemployment Insurance Benefits.

Please be advised that the Madera County Workforce Assistance Center is not the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD), Unemployment Insurance (UI) Office or State Disability Insurance (SDI) Division. If you are experiencing issues or concerns regarding your benefits, the Workforce Assistance Center Staff are happy to provide you with contact information and ways in which you can contact EDD related to UI and SDI. An EDD Representative is available on a limited basis to provide assistance for job search and related services and assistance. The Workforce Assistance Center Staff will be happy to provide you with further information and the scheduled days and times for EDD Staff.

All job seekers interested in obtaining services from Madera County Workforce Investment Corporation will be required to enter their employment history, job skills, education, etc., in our CalJOBS website.

An e-mail account will also be required and will allow staff to communicate with job seekers regarding special recruitments, job announcements, job fairs, etc. If you do not have an e-mail, one can be created for you in the CalJOBS Workshop.

The Madera County Workforce Investment Corporation operates programs for both adults and youth who need help finding employment. We provide a variety of services for people living in Madera County who are interested in finding work, going to school and/or training or improving their skills to move up in their workplace.

The Madera County Workforce Investment Corporation also provides services to local employers. We recruit and take applications for local companies, screen the applicants, and schedule interviews at our office or at the company site. We will also make referrals to employers for direct placement.

Funding for training through Madera County Workforce Investment Corporation is limited. Services will be provided to Job Seekers that are motivated, committed, and determined to achieve their career goal and become successfully employed.

Support from family and friends are important, we ask that you discuss your training plans with them before you make this important decision.

There will be mandated activities that you will need to complete before training can be considered.

What are some of the challenges you currently have that will need to be addressed? Transportation, Child care, Income, Legal issues.

Individuals will be selected for training according to the following priority of services:

1. Veterans

2. Customers who complete and receive their GED Certificate or High School Diploma and want additional training.

3. All other customers.

We are no longer able to assist customers with the registration fees and books for GED Prep classes. If you are interested in getting your GED Certificate, we may be able to assist you with the cost of the GED Test. You must bring your assessment results to show that you are ready to take the exam.

Madera County Workforce Assistance Center is an approved Employment Network (EN) provider. ENs are contracted by SSA to administer the Ticket to Work (TtW) program.

TtW allows SSI or SSDI beneficiaries to receive a ticket to work, which may be assigned to an EN provider for assistance in achieving their desired employment goal.

Benefits Counseling is available to help ticketholders understand how work may impact their disability benefits.
