Tips and Tricks
13
Lessons Learnt
• Copy BW production to a sandbox and perform a full regression test.
• Plan for a formal Trial Cutover. • Test Backups/Restores. • For Issues, review the latest HANA Notes and HANA
revisions. • Refine Project activities and Cutover Tasks. • Verify Table Consistency and partitioning of BW
tables on the database.

Tips & Tricks
When upgrading from 7.x to 7.3 and migrating • Use the latest delivered Business Content version of
certain objects like time characteristics.
• Changes in behaviour of start and end routines in 7.3
• Check Transformations with Constants. In some cases transformation for keyfigures is converted to 'No Transformation‘. Implement 1709947 before the upgrade
• Latest patches for BI Java components
15
Tips & Tricks
16
When upgrading from 7.x to 7.3 and migrating
• The way exception aggregation is dealt with in 7.3 has changed.
• Extra checks in packages resulting in warning messages.
• SAPGUI 7.3 does not have BEx 3.x components as standard.

SAP BW on SAP HANA
Upgraded / migrate a 5.5 TB BW 7.0 system (Oracle)
to a 2TB BW7.3 system running on HANA
in 19 weeks project led by SAP
Early Days, but already a significant performance improvement: – Cost Based CoPa load, 250k records, down on average down from 15 minutes to
5 minutes.
– Billing Condition Data, extract 650k records from ECC into DSO split by year and activated,15 minutes down to 10.
– EMEA batch finishing 3 to 4 hours earlier
– Open Hub, write to a file, reading 13.5 million records outputting 10 million records with ABAP code to remove records using lookups:
– 4.5 hours with Oracle
– 17 hours in HANA
– 40 minutes after optimising the code for HANA
