FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK… Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish, This Thursday is the first day of autumn. Though I love summer, I always look forward to this time of year. I love the harvest time, the dynamic change of the color of the leaves, and the subtle drop of the air temperature. Autumn is a time of year that reminds us both of the bounty of the earth, and the brevity of the growing season. This change from summer’s warmth and green growth to autumn’s golden glow and eventual starkness is a powerful metaphor for life. We have only limited time on this earth to practice works of mercy and bear the fruits of God’s Kingdom. Like the seasons, our life span is brief, and we need to use that time well by living according to Gospel values, and dedicating ourselves to works of love, forgiveness, and understanding. May God’s grace come to fruition in our lives! God’s Blessings, Fr.

PARISH LIBRARY NEWS On Sept. 23, we celebrate the life of an extraordinary saint—Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, or best known as Padre Pio. He had the ability to read the hearts of penitents before they had said a word in the confessional. At the age of 31, he received the stigmata, the visible marks of the crucifixion. He possessed other unusual qualities, such as bilocation, miraculous cures, and remarkable conversions. Padre Pio: The True Story - This author combed through correspondences, interviews and other research to present a well-documented biography of Padre Pio. Presents many miracles and Pio’s supernatural capabilities in full detail. Padre Pio Under Investigation - The Secret Vatican Files Fully Revealed on Padre Pio! In his depositions, he admits to the phenomenon of bi-location, supernatural charisms, and for the first time tells the detailed story of his stigmatization. Padre Pio and America - Tells the story of Padre Pio and his work with American Mary Pyle, and the American GI`s who came to visit him during WWII. Learn more about his sense of humor and uncanny knowledge of people. NEW DVDS: Padre Pio Miracle Man - Considered one of the best films detailing the life of Padre Pio- reveals the amazing details and events in his life as a boy and his 50 years as a friar, dramatizing the frequent attacks of the Devil on him, as well as the persecution he suffered at the hands of people, including those in the church. Padre Pio: Between Heaven and Earth Filmed on location in Italy, this tells the whole story of the beloved monk from San Giovanni Rotondo, a place where millions of pilgrims now go annually to visit his grave. For Children aged 9-12: Saint Pio of Pietrelcina

OCTOBER IS RIGHT TO LIFE MONTH Your St. Francis Knights of Columbus will be collecting donations after Masses on Oct. 1 and 2, to support and build up a culture of life. Can you imagine life without just one of your children or grandchildren? Which one would you give up? Since Roe vs. Wade, 50 million babies have been aborted! Funds collected in October will go to our Culture of Life Fund, which provides local pregnancy centers with state-of -the-art ultrasound machines, which cost $25,000. This nationwide effort has raised $6 million in the last three years, which resulted in the purchase and installation of 250 ultrasound machines. With the use of these machines, pregnant women considering an abortion can see a real life picture of the baby developing within them. Will you join us and support life? We need your moral and financial help. Remember too, to vote pro-life candidates in November to help preserve our religious freedom. Thank you for your consideration and prayers.
