straight and the rough places plain: come, O Lord, and do not delay. Drop down ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness. Let the earth open and bring forth a Saviour. O Lord, show us thy mercy, and grant us thy salvation: come, O Lord, and do not delay.

Choral Benediction Never Weather-Beaten Sail T. Campion (1567-1620) 1 Never weather-beaten sail more willing bent to shore, Never tirèd pilgrim’s limbs affected slumber more, Than my weary sprite now longs to fly out of my troubled breast. O come quickly, O come quickly, O come quickly, sweetest Lord, and take my soul to rest.

2 Ever blooming are the joys of heaven’s high paradise. Cold age deafs not there our ears, nor vapor dims our eyes; Glory there the sun outshines, whose beams the blessed only see. O come quickly, O come quickly, O come quickly, glorious Lord, and raise my sprite to thee.

READINGS THIS WEEK COLLECT Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility, that on the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life im-mortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS God of love and power, your word stirs within us the expectation of the coming of your Son. Accept all we of-fer you this day, and sustain us with

DECEMBER 2, 2018 8

your promise of eternal life. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION God for whom we wait, you have fed us with the bread of eternal life. Keep us ever watchful, that we may be ready to stand before the Son of man. We ask this in the name of Christ the Lord. A READING FROM THE BOOK OF JEREMIAH The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfil the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this is the name by which it will be called: "The Lord is our right-eousness." JEREMIAH 33:14-16 A READING FROM THE FIRST LETTER OF PAUL TO THE THESSALONIANS How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we feel before our God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and restore whatever is lacking in your faith. Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you. And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you. And may he so strengthen your hearts in holiness that

you may be blameless before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. 1 THESSALONIANS 3:9-13 THE HOLY GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE Jesus said, "There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations con-fused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in a cloud' with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Then he told them a parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for your-selves and know that summer is al-ready near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heav-en and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunken-ness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." LUKE 21:25-36

Time commitment for the role includes the Pageant rehearsal on Sat. Dec. 15 and the Pageant itself on Sun. Dec. 16. Canon Dr. Dawn Davis was an associate at our Cathedral. Dawn has gone on to do many great things since being with us (she has earned her doctor-ate and was recently appointed Faith Formation Coordinator in the Diocese of Niagara, ON). Dawn’s most recent under-taking is the authorship of Revive, a discipleship program to help active lay leaders - wardens, property and finance officers, committee chairs, council members, church school teachers, youth ministers, pastoral visitors, and liturgical ministers - grow in confidence as spiritual lead-ers. Revive is about transformation through spiritual formation. The three-part leadership development series focuses on: 1. communicating with God (rediscovering pray-er); 2. engaging in Scripture; and, 3. being called for Minis-try. Revive is to be published by Forward Movement in Jan-uary 2019. Come and be ahead of the publication date!! To SIGN-UP: e-mail [email protected] or phone 902-420-0717, ext. 1169, by Dec. 20.
