Welcome to the Albany Pine Bush PreserveThe Albany Pine Bush is one of the best remaining examples of an inland pine barrens in the world. This gently rolling sand-plain is home to a unique variety of rare plants and animals including the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly.
Albany Pine Bush Preserve Trailhead #9
Kings Highway Barrens
Kings Highway Barrens
A loop trail allows visitors to enjoy both native pitch pine-oak forests and highly invasive black locust forests as well as the native prairies found in this region. Well east of the red trail are several small but high quality pine barrens vernal ponds, a rare habitat type in New York state and beyond. The historic Kings Highway that linked Albany and Schenectady is located adjacent to this part of the preserve.
