My goal in life is to build lifelong readers. I was doing this long before I became a
teacher, but it is why I feel so blessed to
have been given this platform in which to
help achieve this goal. I would like to
share a quote from Donalyn Miller, The
Book Whisperer, that speaks to my
personal beliefs about reading.
“Reading changes your life. Reading unlocks worlds
unknown or forgotten, taking travelers around the
world and through time. Reading helps escape the
confines of school and pursue your own education.
Through characters—the saints and the sinners, real or
imagined—reading shows you how to be a better
human being.”-Donalyn Miller
What we do in Reading….
We will be organizing our reading
classes using a reading workshop
model. Reading workshop is a
model, supported by research, that
empowers students to become
better readers. Allowing student
choices in what they read
strengthens their self-confidence,
rewards their interests, and places
value and promotes a positive
attitude towards reading.
My expectations:1.Read EVERY
DAY! 20 minutes is
best from a
traditionally
accepted format--a
book.
2.Try--no ‘I can’t’
3.Make a positive
impact.

In English class this year…
Among some of the major writing projects we
will complete are:
Personal Narrative
Persuasive Letter
Poetry Writing
Research Project and
Imaginative short story writing
6-1 English
There will be a spelling quiz every two weeks.
Students have a written copy to study.
In addition, the words and definitions may be
found on my website.
Grammar is woven throughout the writing
process from prewriting to drafting, to revising
and editing, to creating the final copy of each
writing piece.
I’m excited to see your students grow in their
writing skills this year!
