THE PRAYER OF PREPARATION

All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE ‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’

(Romans 15:7)

Celebrant Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength’. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

All Amen. Lord have mercy.

Celebrant Jesus says, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.’ So let us turn away from sin and turn to Christ, confessing our sins in penitence and faith.

All Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen

Celebrant Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis is sung

Hymn

Christ is the world's light, he and none other;born in our darkness, he became our brother. If we have seen him we have seen the Father: Glory to God on high!

Christ is the world's peace, he and none other;no one can serve him and despise another.Who else unites us, one in God the Father? Glory to God on high!

As priest, he offered himself once for all upon the altar of the cross and redeemed the human race by this perfect sacrifice of peace. Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.

On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink

this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory.

Deacon Jesus Christ is Lord:All Lord, by your cross and resurrection

You have set us free. You are the Saviour of the world.

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that daywhen your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with St Margaret and all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever.

All Amen.

because we all share in one bread.

The Giving of CommunionCome, not because you are strong, but because you are weak. Come, not because any goodness of your own gives you any right to come, but because you need mercy and help. Come, because you love the Lord a little, and would like to love him more.Come, because he loves you and gave himself for you.

We sing the Agnus Dei. A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

THE DISMISSALDeacon We go into the world to walk in God’s light,

to rejoice in God’s love, and to reflect God’s glory.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. All In the name of Christ. Amen Hymn

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!Bow down before him, his glory proclaim;with gold of obedience, and incense of lowliness, kneel and adore him, the Lord is his name!

Low at his feet lay thy burden of carefulness, high on his heart he will bear it for thee, comfort thy sorrows, and answer thy prayerfulness, guiding thy steps as may best for thee be.

Fear not to enter his courts in the slendernessof the poor wealth thou wouldst reckon as thine:truth in its beauty, and love in its tenderness, these are the offerings to lay on his shrine.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

These though we bring them in trembling and fearfulness,he will accept for the name that is dear;mornings of joy give for evenings of tearfulness, trust for our trembling and hope for our fear.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!Bow down before him, his glory proclaim;with gold of obedience, and incense of lowliness, kneel and adore him, the Lord is his name!

Notices ContinuedThis Year’s Advent Course Booklet Is Out. There is a choice of five different courses, each lasting just four weeks. Two of these are not part of our regular house groups, but have been specially planned to help us think more deeply about the real meaning of Advent and Christmas. Do please have a look at the courses on offer, and join a group if you can. Today is the last opportunity to sign up using the forms in the booklet. If you’ve missed the deadline and would still like to take part, please contact Jill Bell on 521699 or [email protected] as soon as possible.

If you are free between Monday the 23rd and Wednesday the 25th of November and would like to help with the Parish Christmas cards please pop into the office between the hours of 9.30 am and 11.30 am. Many thanks Mave.

The funeral for Yvonne Bantin will take place on the 25th November at 1.15 pm in St Margaret’s Church.

Ifield PCC will be meeting on Monday 23rd November 2015 at 19:30 in Bewbush Barn Church (St. Mary Magdalene’s). Items for discussion include a report following the Ifield Ministry retreat; moving towards two parishes, and financial matters (approval of parish fees and the draft budget for 2016). Non-members of the PCC are very welcome to attend the meeting (although are not entitled to vote). A copy of the minutes of all meetings is available in the PCC file in each Church.

The Advent Workshop will take place this year on the morning of Saturday, 28 November, 9.30 - 12.30 in St Margaret's church for children from Reception year to Year 6. The charge remains at £5 per child (which pays for the craft materials). Registration forms are available at children's clubs and services and (from Oct 17th) from [email protected]. We'll have crafts, worship, games and refreshments all as we usually do. Sadly, space limits us to 28 children so please book soon. You may assume your child has a place once the completed form and payment have been received in the parish office. We will contact you if not.

Advent Travelling Crib. This consists of knitted figures of Mary, Joseph, two shepherds and a lot of sheep. They set off from the church at the beginning of Advent and stay at one families house every night of Advent. As it moves on a sheep stays with the family that have just hosted it. To host Mary and Joseph as they travel please see Sarah Dempster or Susan Maries in church, [email protected] or Fun Stars, St Margaret's on Face Book.

Toy Service. This year's Toy service is on the 6th December at 11am. The toys donated will go to the Golden Lion Children’s Trust who help children with special needs and disadvantaged families in many varied ways. They hold a Christmas party for children of school age and so will be very grateful for toys.

See Claire Roadley to order your 'Real Advent Calendar'. A charity advent calendar with a 32 page Christmas story-activity booklet designed to be used each day in Advent. Behind each of the 24 windows there is a Fairtrade Belgian chocolate and a line of the Christmas story.
