TOGETHER IN MISSION — 2017

Thanks to you, children and parishioners

throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

have their own places to attend Mass and

class. As we know Together in Mission pro-

vides needed support to 80 parishes and 63

schools. You keep their doors open so they

can minister to their communities. 445 families from

St. Benedict have already made their pledges—their

promises—of help. If you are not among them, join

them NOW! Make your pledge as part of your

Lenten almsgiving. Our Brother Jesus, and our less

fortunate brothers and sisters, are counting on your

help. Let’s follow Jesus who is the ultimate example

of serving others through love. Please don’t wait any

CHRISM MASS Archbishop José H. Gomez will

celebrate the Chrism Mass at the Ca-

thedral of Our Lady of the Angels on

Monday, April 10, 2017, at 7:00 p.m.

On this occasion our Archbishop

invites all the members of St. Bene-

dict Parish to join him and our priests as one body

and pray for all those who will be anointed with the

oils during the year; oils that will be blessed at the

Chrism Mass. Those to be anointed are the elect

who will commence their faith journey, the sick who

ask to be healed, children and adults who will be

baptized, the young and old who will be confirmed,

and those to be ordained priests and bishops. The

Chrism Mass is an annual celebration of the sacra-

mental life of our Archdiocese.

We hope that many parishioners can begin Holy

Week by assisting at this Mass.

GOOD FRIDAY—APRIL 14, 2017

IS A DAY OF FAST & ABSTINENCE

Abstinence binds all who have reached

the age of 14. On the days of Abstinence

no meat is allowed. Fast binds all who are

between the ages of 18 to 59 years of age.

On days of fast one full meal is allowed.

Two other meals, sufficient to maintain

strength, may be taken according to each one’s

needs, but together they should not equal one full

meal. Eating between meals is not permitted; but

liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed.

Easter duty is the obligation to receive Holy Com-

munion between the first Sunday of Lent (March 5,

2017) and Trinity Sunday (June 11, 2017).

GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION FOR THE HOLY PLACES

Your help is needed now, as in the days of Saint Francis, to protect the Holy Places of the Holy

Land. Even more important, we need your help to protect the Holy Name of Our Lord in this troubled

land which He chose for His birth, sacrificial death and victorious resurrection.

That is why Franciscan Missioners in the Holy Land minister—in Christ’s name—to the people we

find there. That is why we still feed a refugee child on your behalf. Or give some zealous young pil-

grims a warm place to spend the night on their once-in-a-lifetime adventure of God. Or help a poor

local Christian family build a roof over their heads.

We protect more than the stones of ancient shrines from the ravages of time or armies or tourists.

In an unbelieving world we express and protect the very ideal of what it means to follow Christ. Even as you do in your

own parish.

Your gift will give life to some and hope to others, lighting candles of faith in darkened shrines and lives. Even becom-

ing the very bread and wine of our daily Eucharist.

At this sacred time of year, when the annual Collection for the Shrines (and people) of the Holy Land is taken up here

at St. Benedict Parish, please respond as generously as you can. This collection will take place on Good Friday, April 14,

2017.

EASTER ENVIRONMENT All members of our Parish Family are in-

vited to help decorate the church for our

Easter celebrations by donating Easter

lilies, mums, hydrangeas, tulips or making

a monetary donation. If you place to do-

nate flowers, please bring your plants to the church

on or before Holy Thursday, April 13, 2017, and

UNIDOS EN MISION — 2017

Gracias a ustedes, los fieles y los niños de

la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles tienen su

propio lugar para asistir a Misa y a clases.

Como ya sabemos, Unidos en Misión prove

de asistencia necesaria a 80 parroquias y

63 escuelas. Ustedes mantienen las puertas

abiertas para que ellas pueden servir a sus comuni-

MISA CRISMAL El Arzobispo José H. Gomez, celebrará la Misa

Crismal en el Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Los

Angeles el lunes 10 de abril, 2017 a las 7:00 p.m.

Para esta occasion nuestro Arzobispo invita a

todos los miembros de la Parroquia de San Ben-

tio unirse a él y nuestros sacerdotes como un

solo cuerpo y orar por todos los que serán unjidos con los

oleos durante este año; oleos que se bendicirán en la

Misa Crismal. Los que serán unjidos son los electos quie-

nes comensarán su camino en la fe, los enfermos que

pidan sanación, los niños y adultos que serán confir-

mados, y los que se ordenarán sacerdote y Obispo. La

Misa Crismal es una celebración anual de la vida sacra-

mental de nuestra Arquidiócesis.

Esperamos que a muchos feligreses les sea posible

comenzar la Semana Santa asistiendo a esta Misa.

VIERNES SANTO, 14 DE ABRIL, 2017

ES DíA DE AYUNO Y ABSTINENCIA

La abstinencia obliga a todos los que han

cumplido 14 años de edad. No se permite

comer carne en los días de Abstinencia. El

Ayuno obliga a todos los que han cumplido 18

años hasta los 59 años. Los días de a2yuno solo

se permite una sola comida completa. Las otras

dos comidas, suficiente para mantener fuerzas,

pueden tomarse según las necesidades de cada uno,

pero las dos no deben equivaler a una comida com-

pleta. No se permite comer entre comidas; pero liqui-

dos—leche y jugos frutales—sí se permiten.

La Obligación Pascual es de recibir la Santa Comunión

entre el primer domingo de Cuaresma (5 de Marzo, 2017)

y el domingo de la Santísima Trinidad (11 de Junio, 2017).
