Saint Alphonsus Men’s Group The St. Al’s Men’s Group, Men For Christ, will resume their time together. They will start meeting again on the third Sunday of the month, the next meeting being Au-gust 16. Please note the following changes: 1. Meet after the 8:00 a.m. Mass…we will not be able to sit together. 2. Meet in the Community Room, as this will allow for social distancing. 3. Sorry no coffee!!! All are welcome.

The Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary The church has always held to the belief that Mary was assumed, body and soul, into a heavenly state, even though the belief was not declared as dogmatic until 1950. The early church had a robust tradition of revering relics from the saints of the day, and their complete lack of relics from the Mother of Jesus was seen as evidence of this Marian belief. The celebration of the event as a feast dates back to the fourth century in the East and the seventh century in the West.

Since Mary was untouched by the stain of sin, she was unable to experience the "wages of sin," which is death. But her Assumption also says something about humanity as well. Sin only has power over us if we allow it. Mary was freed from this power in her Immaculate Conception, and when she responded "yes" to God. We were freed from that power when Jesus died and rose, conquering death. Now, we must respond "yes" to claim the victory that was already won for us. On this feast, we should not only celebrate the great works God has done for us through Our Lady, but also celebrate the truth that we have the opportunity to one day spend eternity with her and her Son, Jesus.

The Assumption Is A Sign Of Hope Is the resurrection a concept or reality? For many of us, the resurrection of the dead may be a stray idea recited in the Nicene Creed. Heaven we discuss. But resurrection? The feast of the As-sumption is a reminder to us that heaven gets even better! We pray that the souls of the faithful departed would soon be united to God in heaven. The truth is, the separation between our souls and our bodies was not God’s original plan for things. It’s one of the results of the Fall, of original sin. At the end of time and Jesus’ second coming, our bodies and souls will be reunited. Lest we forget, Mary’s Assumption is the reminder. Today, we celebrate that Mary is enjoying what we, too, hope to participate in — complete joy in heaven with our God, experienced body and soul. Today and every day, let’s pray for those who have died and that we may meet them again in the heaven-ly kingdom. ©LPi

Community Meals Program Although many things have changed or been paused during these past few months, the need for meal programs remains constant. 2020 Catholic Stewardship Appeal Update As of July 6, St. Alphonsus has received pledges totaling $78,039 from 446 donors, which is 48% of our Parish goal of $163,000.

Christian Formation Needs Volunteers The Christian Formation office is looking for volunteer catechists for their 2020-21 Christian For-mation classes. If you are interested in a rewarding experience helping children grow in their faith, this is a great opportunity! Face Mask Sale Saint Alphonsus School is selling face masks that feature the St. Alphonsus logo. Each mask sells for $7.00, and all proceeds benefit the St. Alphonsus Home and School. Welcome To John Campbell, Our New Director Of Facilities Please join me in welcoming John Campbell to St. Alphonsus Parish, as our new Director of Facilities. John will be responsible for managing the current Maintenance Department, as well as taking care of all of the mechanical systems and equipment needs of our large, and very busy, campus. John brings many years of experience from his employment as the Warehouse Manager at the Boelter Companies, as well as project work in carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing and HVAC equipment. John and his family are parishioners of St. John the Evangelist Parish. Please take some time to introduce yourself when you see John around the facility, and welcome him to our Parish staff.

Initiation Of Adults… This process is for unbap-tized adults and those baptized in other Christian traditions that wish to be received into the Catholic Church. It is also for those baptized Catholics who have not been raised in the faith, and who now wish to complete their Initiation Sacraments. The reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist is usually celebrated at our parish Easter Vigil Liturgy. The preparation process takes place throughout the year.
