Course Structure Year One – Mon – Wednesday teaching

from January Placement (30 days)– Thurs & Fri. Year Two – 2 days teaching

from November Placement (80 days)-Mon, Tues, & Wednesdays

Year three – One day teaching – from Nov.Placement (90 days), Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs.

Structure • Year One – foundation year – core module• Underpinning the knowledge required, eg• Social Policy, Law, Contemporary Social Work

Practice, Human Growth & Dev.• Social & Cultural Diversity & Empowerment, Study

Skills• Year Two – skills based modules, eg counselling,

group work, or working with children

• Year 3 – ‘client-based’ modules, SW Theory, Values & Ethics, Dissertation

• Reflective Journal runs throughout the degree – integrating theory & practice

Aim of the Programme• To develop clear links between theory & practice• To enable students to prepare & reflect

on their practice• Register with GSCC as professionally qualified social

workers
