HONORS CLASSES

● ENGLISH 3, ENGLISH 4, US HISTORY 1 AND WORLD HISTORY will offer on level and AP courses only (removing the mid-level honors courses for the above) Because……

*This aligns our curriculum with all other schools in Oklahoma. *Class sizes will be more uniform. *Enrollment in AP should increase. More students will be prepared for the rigor of college. *No other subjects have 3 levels. *Having some “Honors” students in on-level classes will increase the expectation in the class

• ADDED COURSES: Digital Music and Technology (counts as a Fine Arts course)

AP Courses vs. Concurrent Advanced Placement

1. Students can remain at school with peers and familiar teachers.

2. Rigorous coursework will prepare them for college that may lead to better participation, performance, and completion in college. This includes students that choose not to take the AP exam. (Exam is $92 for one, $66 each for more than one, free/reduced rate is $22)

3. Students may earn college credit while attending high school.

4. Students must enroll in at least 3 AP classes to meet the valedictorian requirement for CHS.

5. Students receive a weighted grade of 1.0.

6. There is no entrance requirement

Concurrent 1. Students receive free tuition at RSU

(books and other fees are the responsibility of the student)

2. Students experience college level classes while receiving college credit.

3. Students may receive high school credit as well (most classes count as 0.5 credit for entire term).

4. RSU is close by so travel is a minimum.

5. Different coursework is offered that CHS might not have available.

6. Student may participate in extracurricular activities at CHS, but OSSAA eligibility rules still apply.

7. Students must apply for both admission to RSU and for concurrent enrollment to participate.
