Christmas Eve
Hymn: VU 60
O Come, All Ye Faithful
O Come, All Ye Faithful
O Come, all ye faithful,
joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
come and behold him
born the King of angels:
chorus O Come All Ye Faithful O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
God of God,
Light of Light,
Lo! He abhors nor the Virgin’s womb;
Very God, Begotten, not created;
chorus O Come All Ye Faithful O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels,
sing in exultation,
sing, all ye citizens of heaven above,
glory to God in the highest;
chorus O Come All Ye Faithful O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
See how the shepherds,
summoned to his cradle,
leaving their flocks,
draw nigh with lowly fear;
we too will thither
bend our joyful footsteps:
chorus O Come All Ye Faithful O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born this happy morning,
Jesus, to thee be Glory given.
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing.
chorus O Come All Ye Faithful O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.

showed humble
surrender:

willing.

unconditional trust:
People: May our hearts be willing.
One: Like the shepherds, who
displayed awestruck wonder:
People: May our hearts be willing.
One: Like the angels, who sang
glorious praise:
People: May our hearts be willing.
One: For all who are willing to receive
the gift of the Saviour born in
Bethlehem:
People: Grant that we might have the
peace of Christ as we wait, the
love of Christ as we act, and the
grace of Christ as we speak.

gathered today.
All: O Holy Child of Bethlehem, you are
the hope for our hurting and broken
world. We thank you, O God, for
guiding us through this season of
Advent, shining your light in the
midst by dispelling darkness.
As your birth lit up the Bethlehem sky,
continue to shine in our world by
dispelling darkness, binding up the
broken, and calling forth the faithful.
On this holiest of nights, make us willing
to welcome you as our Saviour and Lord.
We pray this in the name of our newborn
king. Amen.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in our hearts.
Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in your Church
gathered today.

Hymn: VU 64
O Little Town of Bethlehem
O Little Town of Bethlehem
O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie;
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by:
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary;
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
their watch of wondering love.

O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King,
and peace to all on earth
For Christ is born of Mary;
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King,
and peace to all on earth
How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessed gift of heaven.
No ear may hear his coming;
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will
receive him, still
The dear Christ enters in.
O holy child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray,
Cast out our sin, and enter in,
Be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell,
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel.

Hymn: VU 59
Joy to the World
Joy to the World
Joy to the world! The Lord is come:
Let earth receive her King,
Let every heart prepare him room,
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.
Joy to the Earth! The Saviour reigns:
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods,
rocks, hills, and plains
repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
No more let sin and sorrow grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground:
He comes to make his blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of his righteousness
And wonders of his love,
And wonders of his love,
And wonders, and wonders of his love.
Hymn: VU 57
Oh, How Joyfully
Oh, How Joyfully
Oh, how joyfully, oh, how hopefully,
Waits the world on Christmas Eve!
Love comes healing, God revealing.
Friends, be joyful and believe!
Oh, how joyfully, oh, how peacefully,
Sleeps the world on Christmas night!
Sins are covered, grace discovered.
In our darkness shines the light!
Oh, how joyfully, oh, how thankfully,
Wakes the world on Christmas morn!
God has spoken, death is broken.
Hallelujah! Christ is born!
Matthew 1:18-25
Hymn: VU62
Once in Royal David’s City
Once in Royal David’s City
Once in royal David's city,
Stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her baby
In a manger for His bed.
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ, her little child.
He came down to earth from heaven
Who, with God, is over all,
And His shelter was a stable,
And His cradle was a stall.
There among the poor and lowly
Lived on earth our Saviour holy.
For He is our childhood’s pattern:
Daily when on earth He grew;
He was tempted, scorned, rejected,
Tears and smiles like us He knew:
Thus He feels for all our sadness,
And He shares in all our gladness.
And our eyes at last shall see Him
Through His own redeeming love;
For that child, who seemed so helpless,
Is our Lord in heaven above;
And He leads His children on
To the place where He is gone.
Matthew 2:1-6
Hymn: VU91
The First Nowell
The first Nowell the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds
in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay,
a-keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Nowell, Nowell,
Nowell, Nowell,
Born is the King of Israel.
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east, beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
Nowell, Nowell,
Nowell, Nowell,
Born is the King of Israel.
And by the light of that same star
Three wise men came from country far;
To seek for a king was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.
Nowell, Nowell,
Nowell, Nowell,
Born is the King of Israel.
This star drew nigh to the northwest,
O’er Bethlehem it took its rest,
And there it did both stop and stay
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
Nowell, Nowell,
Nowell, Nowell,
Born is the King of Israel.
Then entered in those wise men three,
Full reverently upon their knee,
And offered there in his presence,
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
Nowell, Nowell,
Nowell, Nowell,
Born is the King of Israel.
Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord;
That hath made heav’n and earth of nought,
And with his Blood mankind hath bought.
Nowell, Nowell,
Nowell, Nowell,
Born is the King of Israel.
Matthew 2:7-12
Hymn: VU 74
What Child Is This
What Child is this?
What child is this,
Who, laid to rest,
On Mary’s lap is
sleeping?
Whom angels greet
with anthems sweet,
While shepherds
watch are
keeping?
This, this is Christ the king,
whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
haste, haste to bring him praise,
the babe,
the son of Mary.
Why lies he in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian fear:
For sinners here
the silent Word
is pleading.
This, this is Christ the king,
whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
haste, haste to bring him praise,
the babe,
the son of Mary.
So bring him incense,
gold, and myrrh;
come, peasant, king, to own him.
the King of kings salvation brings;
let loving hearts
enthrone him.
This, this is Christ the king,
whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
haste, haste to bring him praise,
the babe,
the son of Mary.

Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child
Offering Invitation
What can I give him,
poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd,
I would bring a lamb;
if I were a wise man,
I would do my part;
yet what I can, I give him-
give my heart.
Offering Prayer

Hymn: VU 67
Silent Night, Holy Night
Silent Night, Holy Night
Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child,
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night! Holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight:
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born.
Silent night! holy night!
Son of God, Love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth.
